There are 5 carousels within 15 minutes of my house. Years ago Fred F Johnson (of Johnson Shoes) donated them to the parks with the stipulation they would be run every summer with no FEES, only a piece of litter.

Odd thing is I've never rode not even once....

I'm not sure myself but I think it means 1/40 second

Carousels (we’ve always called them merry-go-rounds), were all manufactured by the Allan Herschell Companies of North Tonawanda, New York, in the “country fair” style.
You will be delighted by monkey chariots, horses with hidden lions in the saddle blankets, a pig, and even a dog. Not to worry, every carousel animal in Greater Binghamton is a “jumper!”

What is even more remarkable is that of 150 wood-carved carousels remaining in the United States and Canada, six are right here in Greater Binghamton, New York!

Rod Serling, the creator of “Twilight Zone” who grew up in Binghamton, drew inspiration from Recreation Park for one of his scripts.

The episode, called “Walking Distance,” is about a gentleman who returns to his childhood hometown as an adult, according to Hess.

“They recreated the park setting on a Hollywood lot,” she said

"10/40" means 1/4 second.
 
Yes. "10/600" = 1/60.
 
Bill, memories! Great photos, great memories.

I grew up on the south shore of Long Island, in Baldwin, NY. We had an Nunley's Carousel which had been in town for goodness knows how long. I know three generations of my family have ridden those incredible carvings. A number of years ago the property was bought and the Carousel dismantled. My understanding is it is in storage, and effort was made to get it going again but an adequate amount of funds were never collected. a HUGE shame. When we've traveled, whether to Martha's Vineyard, or where ever, there always seems to be an 'oldest' carousel, I still ride them!

Photography is a lot of things, the emotions of memories can be an extremely important part of it.

I do hope you make it down to your daughter's this spring.

Thanks, Jon Yup my daughter closes on a new 1st House end of March so I am going down to see it and buy them a livingroom set :-)

Will keep it in mind and contact you if need be! Thanks Jon..Only problem here is April is my fishing time! I do fishing then for spawning Rainbow trout from finger lakes..... Nothing like catching 5-10 lb trout in little creeks....
