I am going on a 3 day backpacking trip on the AT in a few weeks. I would like to bring my new A6000 and maybe an extra lens but haven't the slightest idea on how to carry it. Obviously I would like it protected but I would also like quick access to it to take quick pictures. Any ideas?

I don't use a chest pack, but like Tom I use Thinktank. I have my A7 (and before it the Nex-6) in a Thinktank Digital Holster 10 v2.0 attached to a Thinktank Pro Speed belt. Although I believe you can get a harness that allows that holster to be strapped to your chest.

Not sure if this is the setup that Tom is talking about or not.

Another alternative is the Peak Design Capture Clip. Allows you to use an arcaswiss/manfrotto tripod compatible plate to clip the camera to a belt/rucksack strap or any other strap you wish.
