OT: Laptops - What Are YOU Using?...

Anyone know if there is a Centrium based portable using the UXGA screen?
GOD, this is getting to be an EXPEN$IVE HOBBY!!!

Shopping a laptop now, for my photography/video/audio (and to use
in the field for my computer business too)...

Looked at that (should say, been OBSESSING on ) one from Toshiba,
5205 S705, with the cool anti-glare home theater cover on the
screen, but hell, $500 extra for a TV Tuner that I'm never going to
use? More into performance, screen size/resolution, storage,
network connectivity, and having firewire/usb2 for the cam, reader,
hard disk recorder, etc.

Looks like I'm going to end up with a Sony GRT (custom config).
16.1" UXGA screen, P4 2.8Ghz, 256MB RAM (I can get RAM alot cheeper
than Sony wants to sell it for later), 60GB HDD, CD-RW/DVD, 2 yr.
extended warranty - $ 2,219.

THANK GOD for TOLERANT WIVES (promised her a new G5 Mac for X-Mas).

What are you's'all guyz (that's how we say it in the south) using
in the field?

Happy 4th all!

I am considering the new FujFujitsu LifeBook P5010, It's an ultra lite with dedicated Compact Flash and Sony Memory Stick access slots. I think it's the only manufacturer with these slots.

Smaller than most laptops (10' screen and only 3.41 lbs) it might be the answer to the storage issue when travelling. It claims over 4 hrs battery life, however, it has a slower speed than most. (900mz)

I would be very interested if anyone has had experience with this notebook.

Looks interesting but I couldn't find any information about the speed reading from these slots. If you shoot lots of photos, you're going to want something like USB 2.0 or Firewire, and card readers are pretty small, cheap and easy to use, it's not a big deal to carry one in your bag with the laptop. The USB 2.0 reader I have is about the size of a deck of cards, and half the width, and handles all types of cards. Includes a tiny USB conncector that tucks into the back of the card. So if this is the main feature you are basing a purchase on, I'd be cautious about what exactly you are getting.
