Sony came out with three new e mount lenses. Will any of these work on the Sony a 7s camera like the four FE lenses they have already produced?

Could you possibly specify which lenses you are referring to?

They already had seven FE lenses, by my count: 2870, 2470, 35(2.8), 55, 1635, 24105, and 70200.

They just announced four new lenses: 24240, 35(1.4), 90, and 28. Plus two wide angle adapters for the 28.

All of these will work fine on an A7S.

A7 with kit lens and a number of legacy lenses (mostly Canon FD); A3000 converted to IR.

He must mean those new round ones.

The ones with glass in them?

They'll come in handy with any camera. Or any car, come to think of it.

I know these lenses will attach to an A6000, but what are the effects of using an FE lens on an E mount camera? I really appreciate knowing that.

FE lenses are designed to cover a full frame 35mm sensor. The situation can be confusing because the E lenses are seldom designated as such (the 'E' is often left off) and they are really designed to only cover the APS-C sensors.

All these lenses are designed for the physical configuration of the e-mount of the Sony mirrorless ILC cameras whether they are FE or E lenses.

FE lenses will act like E lenses of the same focal length on the APS-C sensor cameras. On the other hand, E lenses when used on full frame (35mm sensor) cameras do not typically cover the entire frame and will either auto crop to APS-C by default or vignette if the crop feature is turned off. A few of these E lenses will cover the entire or perhaps the majority of the 35mm sensor under the right circumstances. The advantage of owning an E lens is that they can be smaller than an FE counter part.

Bruce, that means the FE announcements have really improved the lens menu for my A6000, FE or E on the A6000 giving the same results for either.

Thank you for your response.

Jon

There is no 24-105 for the Sony E-mount that supports full frame FE.
Correct...no 24-105, but there is a big FE 28-135 that is primarily designed for video or masochists.

[Insert clamour for focal reducer]

They may have an identical* effect on the camera, but not on your wallet.

*for same FL/f ratio

Hi Bruce,

Appreciate your help. Do you happen to know any of the E lenses you mentioned that might cover all or most of the 35mm FOV? I heard the 30mm 2.8 sigma can ~1.2x crop rather than 1.5x so I am definitely going to look into that.

Thanks

One can use FE lenses on A6000 without any problems and they will behave as E-mount.

As you know the weakest spots of a lens are the corners, by using FE lenses on A6000 you minimize this problem because in this situation not the complete surface of a lens is used.(cut off part of the corners)
