I am planning on purchasing D7100. I will use it mainly for jewelry photography and also video recording for small commercial.

My budget is limited I need a lens that can do; macro for the close shooting of jewelry and also good quality video recording in a studio environment in full hd, I will be recording model wearing jewelry.

Thanks in advance for all your comments.

I would get a manual focus AI-S macro lens... The Nikon 55mm f/2.8 Micro... Works out to about 82mm equivalent...

It be hard for me not to purchase the Venus Macro Lens for Nikon. It's 60mm f2.8 full manual but samples look stellar and it does DOUBLE LIFESIZE! Most macros do only half or 1x... this will get you two times closer. Reviews on this new lens are all very good . It's only available via ebay at the moment. It's great for video recording as well, you're going to use full manual / manual focus anyway so you won't need an AF lens.

I use and recommend the Nikon 85mm DX (made for DX) micro/macro. You don't need the heavy made for FX 2.8 lenses, with macro you're always shooting f16 or f22. Its lightweight and a great price:

I would grab the 40mm 2.8 afs micro lens. It's pretty cheap and reviews well. Sounds like just what you need

I would advise Tamron 60mm f2.0 Macro lens. I have it, and love it.

It is cheap but it has a couple of drawbacks. 40mm doesn't give you much of a working distance for small jewelry, which can make lighting difficult. 40mm (60mm equivalent) and is also a pretty short focal length for portraiture using models. It's fine for group portraiture but for photos of individuals, especially head shots, the perspective created by getting close enough to fill the frame tends to exaggerate the size of what's closest to the lens. So noses appear larger than flattering and it's why for that type of photography, longer focal length lenses are generally preferred, like 85mm, 105mm, 135mm and longer. For video, silent focusing is desirable so that would rule out older screw drive Micro Nikkors or non-Nikon macro lenses that are noisy either because they also use the D7100's screw drive motor to focus, or they use noisy mechanical focus motors that are built into the lens.

If you are doing product photography, I would strongly recommend that you pick up a PC-E 85 f2.8 TS lens. It solves a lot of head aches if you need to have the entire product in tight focus. Works great on a crop camera.

It is expensive new, but you maybe able to pick up a good used one for at lot less money.

I'd go for the micro 60 2.8G, OnDX have the FOV of 90mm for portrait, then step in to do macro. Get a little more WD over the 40 for lighting.
