We need to do all we can to help Laurence return to his passion of self expression.

Thanks, Guenter, for posting this, best to you too.

I've been fortunate to have met Laurence in Real Life, and you'd have a difficult time finding a nicer, more helpful guy. He's assisted me with my photography and Sigma gear issues numerous times, including a few times when he's done so, or at least tried to, anonymously - I've got spies, Laurence ;).

And as anyone who has been watching these forums for more than a few minutes knows, he's helped countless - and often clueless (me) - Sigma users over the years with issues large and small, and with answers long and short, ... some of his best answers were of the one-word variety. Often hilarious, too.

Anyway, as could be expected, Laurence down-played the extent and seriousness of both his injuries and the situation those injuries have placed him in. In short, he could use our help.

So, if you can kick-in a few bucks, either now or later, or even send him some encouraging words, please take the time to do so. I'm sure anything you're able to do will be appreciated by the unofficial Mayor of Sigmaville; The Right Honorable Mr. Matson.

Thanks!

As long as I'm "on SIGMA", I know Laurence and his characterful personality. Many years ago I got from him for no money a set of Jack Russell terrier portraits for an info campaign in our village. At those times Laurence was yet living in Switzlerland and a very humorous friend.

He used to enliven our forum a lot of times - now, I think, it's our turn to enliven him and help him and his relatives coming back to worthwhile life.

Chuck,

Obviously I do not know either yourself or "The Right Honorable Mr. Matson" personally but in my experience in this forum both you and Laurence have always been worth reading as both of your comments were always to the point and completely devoid of unnecessary sniping.

Hopefully over time, le cúnamh Dé, Laurence will make a full recovery and get back to his photography and printing once again.

So sad to hear. An accident comes so fast,
and might have devasting effect. I have no
experience of fund raising like this, but hope
he can get the money he needs.

I've donated a few bucks and wish Laurence a speedy recovery!

Sometimes one can make a friendship over the internet without meeting and Laurence is one of those people for me.

If I remember right, Laurence was organizer and attendee of the most beautiful, exciting, dangerous and famous meeting of the Sigma user group in la Wantzenau, France, Alsace! It was in April 2005, as members right out of this forum decided to cross the ocean or the country to meet in a lovely medieval village in Alsace for a weekend to take photos, experimenting with photoshop - and to plot large format pictures with printers provided by the company Epson!

At saturday morning there opens the door of the hotel, where all the members had slept at, and started to spread with their Sigmas and huge lenses into the alleyways of la Wantzenau! And the village is so marvelous! But there was no long time as a box wagon full of persons of the French Gendarmerie appeared and arrested all the people with passports of foreign countries! - because of suspicious photographing of private buildings.

Shortly afterwards all where set free again, but whole the forum had a very, very good laughter, endless discussions and jokes for month... Laurence, Georges Noblet, Olga, Bob and a lot of others...

You may take a search of "Wantzenau" in our forum, but most of the picture links are obsolete.

Yes, this is Laurence.

Thanks for reminding me! La Wantzenau was the place I met several members of the Sigma gang for the first time, among them Olga, George, Ole and Frits Thompson, who sadly died last year.

I took this shot of Laurence with some antique manual Helios lens on a SD10 at that meeting:

Well, I guess, we all are 10 years older now :)

Oh I clearly have missed a lot 'recently'... That's more bad news, so sad to hear to Frits died last year.

I do not know Laurence, but understand his dire situation. I made a donation and hope you do too.

Thank you for posting this, Guenter. A great initiative to help the Friend in need.

As a side note, it would be beneficial to add the PayPal link for donations as well.

Thank you for the hint Richard,

I guess it is easy to pay via Papal on the indigogo campaign site.

For example, I'm getting a SD1M shortly. If I like it enough to keep, I could sell the SD14 with my least beloved lens and donate the proceeds to the Fund.

You can also do the same with SD1M, if you don't like it :-)

A good post is short on words and long on references. (Me, 2015),

I second that!

It's human nature after we've done our bit to slowly begin to forget.

Let's try to not forget in this case . . . .

Good bump, Guenter.

I can't do more than cheer on, but in this regard, would like to say that I have very much enjoyed and appreciated Laurence's posts as he's been in recovery.

They are easily as cogent as he has always been able to be, and quite spirited in their offering to others as he likes to be, also appropriate of tones in view of all the effort he is engaged in.

A person shows they are always themselves, as we always have appreciated them, and could not do more.

His road is being walked, and surely the seasons will bring their satisfaction. Must be so.
