The G2 by default saves pictures in a 4:3 aspect ratio... so the
picture is 33% wider than it is tall. If your print does not share
this aspect ratio, then something will have to be cropped in order
to make it fit.
It's also possible that they did some additional cropping on your
behalf to try to make a more pleasing picture. You should ask for
more information from the lab who processed the pictures.
Another alternative is to use some of the increasingly common photo
kiosks that allow you to make your own prints directly from a CD or
memory card.

I had taken pic with my canon G2 and had downloaded the photo using
the canon zoom browser to a CD. However after developing from
Kodak, all the photos seems to be compressed. In the sense that the
border of the photo had been cut away. Hence when the object is too
near the border, it will be cut away. Wondering whether is it due
to the software i am using or something to do with the developing
side? FYI I did not do any editing of the photo when i download to
CD. Any ideas? Thanks
