PART 2- This Week Through YOUR m4/3 2015.02.07 -PART 1

Image was not cropped, just off center subject.

I'm not sure there is an advantage to the digital zoom vs crop. And yes, the raw file is the full size.

If you can make money with it, it’s a “pro” gear no matter what the format. If you are using it for fun/hobby it’s a toy no matter what it says on the lens or what the marketing people made you believe.

I've been photographing this comet for about a month and I've learned a lot about astrophotograpy in that time period. There are a lot of ifs when you shoot, if there are no clouds, if you can find the darn thing, if the dew isn't to heavy, if the moon isn't to bright if if if .....

This was taken Friday night as Comet Lovejoy passed thru Andromeda Constellation, the bright star is Almaak.

Good stuff. What causes the 'gappy' ray pattern on the bright star (and what star is it)?

I also like the icicles and the dark background, well captured.

However, I don't like the swing.

For me - the cake & coffee shot any day!! :-D

Interesting shot. You can really see the feathers.

Do you have more room on the left side. And perhaps a bit on the top. If not I would close up the right side to diminish the problem a bit.

Excellent!! What is the bright object to the left ?

I agree the shot is crowded to the left

If I go to the raw file and then crop, I could get a better balance. I need to be more aware of the effect of the digital zoom "crop" when framing. This was my first attempt at using the Digital Zoom of the E-M10 so I was more interested in the image quality than the composition.

I'll have to do some work on the raw file to see which I like better when cropped equally.

Thanks for the comments...

Love the first shot. I know the rocks and surf are the feature there, but I couldn't help wondering how the rest of the sky looked.

Well done. Is your camera moving during the exposure to avoid light trails?

I think you are referring to the "star" pattern, it is caused by the leaf blades in the lens aperture. The star is Almaak.

just wow. Very good, you sure know what you're doing!
Thanks for the flowers. No, I really don't know what I am doing (sill learning) this is all new to me and my first attempt at shooting an celestial object.

Thank-you The bright object to the left is Almaak (also spelt as Almaach, Almaack, Almak, Almaak, or Alamak) it is part of the Andromeda Constellation.

Great timing...or luck...or whatever you want to call it. call it a lunar seagull eclipse! :-)
