Very interesting... kind of like a time machine... hard to imagine "going to church" there way back in the day -- thanks for the post.

A nice scene on a winter day. I found the location on the map...

Great mirroring!

Did you have to hike up there? Or was it accessible by car?

Lots of photo ops along this 16 mile hike. This is only a 2 shot pano but you still get an idea of how unique and pretty it is. One of the challenges was finding a spot without a bunch of brush in the foreground.

The tide had to be high, there had to be no wind, it had to be dusk, and the lights had to be on. It took a while to get all at the same time.

Friends seem to like the image and I do, but

I'm looking for some C&C especially any comments if you see any improvements or if it could benefit from a different offset.

Please post a 'decent' aka LARGER image. ;-) That's easier to see & explore & to comment...

Thanks

Decent image, hopefully

I first clicked on the 'gallery page' 'large' size image and that one was only 1600pixels wide. :-(

But when clicking on the image directly and using the dpreview 1:1 view, I got a bigger one. Thanks.

Ok, let's see, some remarks from me:
  • I think when shot at dusk, it should not only be red(dish) colors...
  • The lights are fairly (too?) bright. Especially the one on the left side of the image. I can see a lot of (waterdrops?) lensreflections.
  • Also some distortion on the left side of the image. Shot with a WA lens?
  • Didn't you get any details anymore in the dark(er) areas of the image?
Of how many images was this pano composed?

It's not often I comment on an image since I find myself seeking feedback more often than feeling qualified to give it.

So, FWIW, I think the image is overall too dark. I can -sorta- tell that it's on a lake and there's reflections, but I have to really look closely to confirm my suspicions. The detail of the houses is lost by the brightness of the outdoor lights and the darkness of the rest of the image. Hence, it's hard to tell what it is you're trying to convey. I think a tad earlier, where there is more ambient light (and more detail), would have been perfect. The overall scene would have been clearer to the viewer while still keeping the evening feel that it seems you were after.

Something else I might try is to move the camera to the other side of the dock (forward in the image), so that the distortion of the dock created by stitching images isn't so apparent and noticeable.

Cheers!

Useful comments.

A bit more light would have been good perhaps. But perhaps one drawback with earlier is that the house lights aren't on as people aren't home from work.

People who live there really like the image. But I thought I'd show it here for some feedback on how to improve - because I am sure it could be better and i) panoramas aren't my most usual photography and ii) night time certainly isn't.

(it's actually on a tidal estuary - so that's another complication - the tide has to be in)

Thanks for the feedback

The pano was 11 images. I am not sure how I can improve the detail in the dark areas without blowing the lights more ?

The lens was the Nikon 17-55 at 17mm
