Which enhancements do you want to see in firmware 1.3 for the NX1?

As others have already observed, the 1.2 firmware somehow impaired the burst mode, and so needs fixing.

Doesn't the NX1 lack a means to assign distinct program or custom preferences that apply distinctly to still mode and audio mode? Isn't one problem that any selection made in the still mode disappears if one shoots video, and vice versa?

Samsung's original utility to convert h.265 to h.264 did not impress anyone, apparently. Until the world catches up with h.265, why not allow people to record in h.264, even though that might require fasteer cards?

Any ETA on when more editing products will support h.265 directly, or perhaps through proxies? Recoding to intermediate files is a bulky chore and can entail some damage. Ideally, one would recode only once or, where possible, not at all, when editing.

Off topic: a discount price on a body + 2 lenses package might be attractive to the not-so-well-to-do among this world. $2,700 could get a po' feller a D5300, two kit lenses, and a few choice primes too.
I do not understand why there is no package discount on the NX1 an 16-50mm lens. I was luckily and found a store demo body and lens for under $2400 because I was not going to pay the retail price.

I would think Samsung is trying to build market share and get their products in to buyer's hands. The best way is to put these cameras on sale.

This may have been mentioned (and may exist but I don't know how to make it happen)

A magnified zoom view for manual focusing, on an area besides the center. (Able to move the magnified view area around like you can when viewing images) Kind of like Canon's "Live View" features in the 5D
A alternative is:

If you are in AF mode with DMF, the selected AF area will be magnified, if you make a manual override...

...I use this mode and it works fine.

However, with manual lenses, it only magnifies the center, as I already mentioned within this wish:

"- to move the focusing aid field across the frame in conjunction with adapted manual lenses."
When viewing captured images at magnified view, I would like to be able to navigate to the next image at the same magnification and the same region. And when I delete a photo from magnified view, it advances to the next photo (or previous if was the last in the group) with the same view and magnification. I realize this is unique to the type of shooting I do, and/or those who do a lot of rapid shooting of fast moving subjects at sporting events and must cull a lot of bad images in camera before transferring to computer.

Funny, this already exists, but maybe you are not aware of:

First, magnify with the upper wheel near the shutter button to your liking...

...then use the rear wheel above the AF On button to go forward, or backward within your pictures...

...the magnification and the location of the view within the picture will stay the same!

I like this function very much, because it really helps to check a set of shots fast and reliable.

I second this, I love this on my 5D, I can't believe I didn't think of it since the lack of it irritates me quite often on the NX300.

FYI:

" this thread is only for collecting wishes in regard of the NX1 firmware and nothing else!"

I would LOVE 120fps 4k video as samsung stated they were capable of recording 240fps of the whole sensor! Pleaseee samsung hahah

For me,

300fps @ 1080p

is much more important...

...because I love the possibilities slow motion videos offer! :-)

You can do this, with the rear wheel above the AF ON button...

...just try it. ;-)
Ah, I wasn't aware (I have no NX1 yet, so NX300 was my reference on that).

P.S.:

AF + DMF enables the functionality, to focus manually, with magnification aid, on positions all over the frame.

(the position of the AF field will be magnified)

I'd like to see the below ones added:
- different noise reduction settings for all ISO sensitivities, for JPG and video.

- the possibility to completely deactivate the (re-) focus function of the shutter button in every mode.

- to move the focusing aid field across the frame in conjunction with adapted manual lenses.
Does this one below mean in the EXIF data?
- a copyright info preset for the image files

- 12 bit / 14 bit selectable for all modes

- bracketing order selectable: 0,+,- ; -,0,+ ; +,0,- ; +,-,0 etc...

- timer in conjunction with bracketing
Does NX1 already allow auto ISO in Manual mode? I'll check.

  1. In focus aid mode I could set the manification rate at a 1-10x scale. Magnification should not happen in the centre of the frame, but I could set the centre of magnification anywhere on the frame
THIS!

Also, im not sure if it's already there, but i havent been able to find how to do that, the option to use a phone (or tablet) as external mornitor via usb, for the remote viewfinder via wifi is quite unusable for video

Lower selectable fps rate (if I recall correctly, it's selectable among 8, 10, 12 and 15). It would be interesting to have also 6 and 4, so to have a 'longer lasting' buffer when no high rate fps is needed.

Seems everyone agrees their "smartphone app" is mostly useless. All we an do is wait for the Windows tethered (USB) software that Samsung is supposed to have claimed is truly in the pipeline. I just hope they do this right and not crank out some lame app that only has half of what a pro photographer wants and needs.

There are times when the camera gives up entirely when it cannot confirm AF. This happens even with the 50-150mm F2.8 lens. I hope Samsung can address this and other AF issues in a firmware upgrade.

I've had this happen (camera in H mode to capture a burst of photos, most captures go fine, then all of the sudden, 1 capture get's one photo, then the burst stops, for no apparent reason) It might happen to me 1 in 40 times in good light situations where focus should not be an issue.

But I don't think the situations I'm experiencing are a focus failure causing this to happen, but I'm not sure why it does this on occasion other then just a quirky, unwanted behavior of the hardware and/or the software.

This is why no pro sports shooters will use anything but pro Nikkon or Canon equipment and why Samsung will never enter the pro sports shooters bags.

One more that came to my mind:

Would be nice to be able to have multi af limited to an area different than a square.

I mean, it would be nice to have a rectangular area (vertical or horizontal) inside which multi af is active, instead of just a square.

That could help in situations where the subject is "high and slim" or "large and short", without distracting the camera with empty areas.

Have you also tried this, in continuous normal "N"-mode, where the camera shoots at around 5fps?

I think Samsung should check, why some Lexar cards seem to be not suited for the NX1.

I use AF + DMF, so that I can manually override AF if needed...

...however, I almost never need it, except for test shots in hilarious shooting conditions.

Another one: since nx1 is aimed also at video professionals, it would be nice to be able to tune the level at which zebra stripes show. Currently, from the manual, I think it has just one level that indicate pure clipping.

E.g. a value of 65-70 IREs is the correct exposure for caucasian skins.

Derived from dpr preview:
  • please allow real time live view during burst shooting and don't display slideshow of captured images instead. This is important for shooting moving targets.
A novel idea (dunno if technically feasible):
  • please allow for decoupling of the two displays (evf and rear display) so that when using evf for live view the rear display can be used, e.g., to review images or else.
