In October of 2004 we brought home a very sweet little male boxer puppy who we immediately named 'Buddy'. When 'Boo Boo', as we more often called him, was a year and a half old we got him a little female companion -- another boxer puppy named 'Haily'. They were immediately inseparable, as Buddy became Haily mentor -- teaching her how to properly chew sticks, play with various toys, etc.. Buddy was her 'alpha'.

A year and a half ago Buddy was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and we sadly knew that he was on borrowed time. Thanks to the wonderful care of our veterinarian and his staff, Buddy kept on going and going like the 'Energizer Bunny' -- but his heart condition slowly was taking its toll, until Friday a little over a week ago when we finally knew it was time to say goodbye.

I've lost a lot of pets over my 67 years, but this has been the hardest. Buddy made us laugh every day we were around him for those 10+ years, and losing him has been, and continues to be very painful.

Haily is struggling right now also, as she has never known life without Buddy, and doesn't understand where he went. We left Buddy's bed next to hers and she now sleeps with her head on his bed. :-( At some point we will no doubt get her a little companion to help fill that void.

Time heals these things, and my wife and I thank God for giving us Buddy for those precious years -- he will forever be in our hearts.

Below are a few photos of Buddy over the years -- I've posted about a million on this forum during his life.

Greg I feel with you and buddy was very blessed with such a caring home and companionship. I know how it feels as I lost my cat 1 October 2014 after 26 years and 5 months. You let us see a gorgeous nice set of images to remember.

Sorry for your loss. We lost one of our three schnauzers to liver cancer a few years back and I think her brother and sister took it harder than we did. For weeks they would go out the back door, turn and just wait for her to come out. She was their alpha and they were lost without her. It made the loss even more heart breaking.

Now they are 13 and we know the day is coming when we will have to fight every fiber of our being wanting to be selfish and make sure they are not suffering. They deserve it after so many years of unconditional love, comfort and laughter.

Greg ,

I am so sorry for your loss!! You have some wonderful images, and the best memories will always be in your mind.

I, and many others here, have been though this too many times, and it is never easy. Our only consolation is knowing we were lucky to have them with us as companions, and that we gave them the love and caring they deserve!

Greg, I know what it is like to lose a beloved animal companion, you know the one that recognizes your car driving into the driveway,so when one opens the door, it is there waiting for you. Time does heal things, but it can take a while

Great shots to remember him by.

Greg, it is so sad when we lose a beloved pet and companion who has been part of the family for so many years. All you can do is hold on to your memories of the fun and love you shared, and as others have commented, you have some wonderful images to help remember Buddy by.

This past year has been very tough for us in terms of our pets. We started out 2014 with two cats (Prissy and Ziggy) and two boxers -- we lost both cats last year, and now Buddy. I'm sure poor Haily is really wondering what gives.

Thanks again.

Losing pets is always a very painful experience. This one seems especially hard for us.

Thank you for your comment, and I pray that your pups stay with you in good health for a long time.

he was a beautiful dog.

We lost our 17 year old lab Sept last year so I feel your loss.

What a lovely tribute. Am so sorry you lost your friend, they truly become members of the family. He was a noble pooch, to be sure.

Best regards,

Rick

I an not exaggerating when I say that Buddy made us laugh every day we were around him. He was a big, sweet, clown who brought a lot of joy to our home. He went very peacefully, and I know his brave heart was worn out and he was ready to rest.

Thanks for the kind words.
