Downloading XAVC-S movies on a Win7 machine

I have one XAVC-S movie on a SDXC 64GB SD (Sandisk Extreme Pro - exFAT! ) + one Extreme Pro Reader USB3 (Sandisk) on my USB3 port on Win7. Not enough! No result! What else is missing?

Windows sees the reader but not the exFAT content. I can see the movie in camera. So-called upgrades for exFAT from Microsoft do nothing or are "platform incompatible". My computer is an ASUS N53SV.

SD card has been formatted by the camera; not in win7. Problem?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I know I should use a Mac!

This has come up before, but I don't remember the outcome. Do a search. You've done everything correctly. I shoot XAVC on 2 cameras - I edit them on a Mac, although I have 2 Win7 machines. Maybe I'll see if my Windows PCs have the same problem.

Hopefully someone else will have a quick answer for you.

To find the solution, one must eliminate the possible problems. The first option I'd try is reading the SD card directly from your laptop's card reader.

Make sure your OS is up to date.

My Windows computer (win7 64bit), plays my XAVC-S movies read from my Lexar USB3 card reader with no problem.

Thanks Graham. I'm doing the same as you, but from my Sandisk reader (USB3-SDXC). Win 7 sees the drive but not the disk in it. It can see other disks (not exFAT).

I remember someone saying disks MUST be formatted in exFAT in computer (but not in a Mac!). Mine has been by the camera. I see no way of formatting it again from computer. No problem with losing the test content.

Formatting from the computer can be discarded as a potential solution. I've never formatted a flash memory card from the computer, and I've never had a problem.

To fully understand your problem:

Can your card reader read cards other than exfat?

If you right click on the card reader, what information is reported?

Hi Graham. I must take some rest now after so much research, reading + many trials and useless updates. Even the Registry (all is secure!). I have followed your advice + Sandisk's + Microsoft's; all of them are mentioning some problems! I know for sure that this situation is pretty messy now. I was interested in photo & video and I am now immersed in computer nightmare! Tomorrow I will reassess the situation and do some test with other cards. Right now the reader is not seen anymore by the OS. I hope you will be still with me. Have a nice weekend!

No, the cards should be formatted in the camera, not by the computer. That's nothing new.

My Mac machines format drives and USB sticks with FAT32 and exFat just fine, but I use my cameras to format whatever cards I'm putting into them.

Bad News: still unable to see the SanDisk reader in the OS.

Good News: Now, with direct USB link from camera, OS (Win7-64bit)sees everything (including 64 GB exFAT SD card), both on Win Explorer and Disk Manager; and I can copy mp4 files from SD card in camera (well hidden on directory Private\M4Root\Clip) to computer. I can also view the movie with VLC. Surprisingly high quality!

Probably the reader.

I’m only missing high speed transfer through USB III reader/port. Could become a problem with large files.

Out of curiosity, what WIN processing software do you use for XAVC-S? I'm tempted by the Sony Movie Studio Platinum Suite.
