D810 + 600mm VR lens and a few recent samples

Great images! You don't happen to have a none re-sized version of any of the images to post?

Oh and the EXIF's says D800.
Thanks for your comments mansod!

I can't post unresized images here there to big, but I made a 100 percent crop of a shot taken this morning while I was editing that may help with your request. Using raw2nef64 it tages the nef file as d800 in order for nx2 to open the raw for editing. It strips copyright info as well as focus point that was used:( I may have to start creating dng files.

BTW was the original shot in DX-mode?

No I traded the Dinan 335i in on an E92 M3 DCT coupe in 2009. The Dinan was fun but the open differential and all of that torque wasn't a good match with winter owl photography. The E92 M3 was better but I tore the transmission pan out of it after a snowy owl session in March of 2014. Traded that for a 435i xDrive 8 AT with BMW's very modest flash tune, MPPK. I'm looking at maybe doing some Dinan stuff in the spring.

Shes a beauty Jim love that color! I'm liking the M4 Coupe but I think my wifey has other ideas lol. Still driving the old sled but with new hd suspension and eibach springs. My favorite struts and shocks so far compaired to dinans and fsd.

A couple more images I used Jim P's sharpening for NX2 then processed in CS4 normally. Best viewed in the original size.

Those sure look sharp, very nice indeed. Do you feel you get better sharpening results with NX2 than LR?

I am particularly drawn to the tones and colours of that second image. Great job.

Thanks for commenting Alistair!

I'm more comfortable using NX2 for Raw processing and I'm partial to using the Nikon picture control files built in for the camera. Sharpening is a concern and I feel I get a better presharpened image using NX2 for processing the raw before post processing in adobe photoshop. Could be my limitations of adobe raw. I also use NX2 presets I have saved over the years to speed things up.

The second image on this page is Neutral with +1 contrast, -1 brightness and +1 saturation. Then, I adjust the quick fix settings so the exposure is balanced between the shadows and highlights and spread the data to the ends using the contrast selection. I also have a preset that adds a little more luster and color to the image.

Ray

Wonderful sharpness and detail. Just what I would expect from your killer combo.

Lovely set.

a KF in full flight with the 300 2.8 :( ;) . I think I'll skip trying to handhold the 500vr again :) . These are great images and I really like what you've done with this one. I also really like the action in the Egret image :) .

Glad you are out and shooting even if your available selection of targets is not up to par. Not back to shooting Flies in flight yet ... lol . Fortunately I still have an Osprey around that seems to be pretty good at grabbing fish.

All the best and keep having fun with the D810 :)

Beautiful images. Thanks for sharing photos and info.

Ray,

As stated above, great work. I looked at your bio. My son is 31 years old and also is a IT dude. He works for Thundercat Technologies out of Reston, Va.. He is kicking butt, and loving it. Ever hear of Thundercat? I know this is random but thought there might be some parallels in each of your paths. He loves cars also.

Thanks for the kind comments Ed! I haven't heard of Thundercat IT, but I've been out of the loop for sometime and technology changes fast. I did most of my work for large bank corporations a real pita:).
