I bought the Sony RX100 Mk 3 and promptly drove over it, (don’t ask). Fortunately it was in a case; unfortunately all this did was contain all the bits. I liked the images it produced but when it came to replacing it felt I would like more reach so, having read all the reviews settled on the FZ1000, which I picked up today. I love the lack of weight. I could carry it around all day. It fits in the bag that goes around my waist, and I like the wheel for changing aperture/speed and exposure compensation. I find it very intuitive. I also like how close the sensor replicates the one in the Sony It will take me some time to get to grips with camera but these are my first efforts.

Sorry to hear about your Sony. RX100 M3.

Congrats on your new LX100.

BTW nice shots esp. the first one.

Two questions arise:

1- Is it the brownish stuff on the ball that makes it interesting ?

2- Which brand of car was the dog in the last pic removed from ?

Oh...and...welcome to the forum!

Nice introduction to your new camera, the dog portrait is priceless.

Thanks, Karen. That's Poppy taking exercise. This is Benny, her companion who forever looks grumpy.

Come on now confess , just out of screen you are stealing his bone :-) . Though some complain about the frequency of cat or dog pics, our pets make obliging subjects and are often used for test shots of new gear . I usually take posts of my lovely Labrador however my friend was in the house with his wee dog .

Yes, welcome to the forum dartmoorman. You can't have too many dog pics so keep 'em coming. cat's are a different story. :)

I'm curious, so you got the FZ1000? And it's light and you wear it on your waist? I would think that you meant to say LX100 except that the exif info on the first pic says FZ1000. Either choice would be great but I'm just a little confused, as usual.

Thank you all for your kind welcome. Tim, it is the FZ 1000. I am one of those who has flitted between SLR and pocket cameras. I am in to long distance trekking for charity and when I had the former I hated changing and carrying lenses.

The compacts do not have the reach I desired so the FZ 1000 seemed like the perfect compromise, perhaps I was destined to drive over my Sony.

In answer to your question,Tim, I have what in the UK is called a bum bag and in the US a fanny bag, I think. Putting the camera in this means I do not have to take my rucksack off whenever I want to take a photo. I know some equate the camera being light with inferior build quality but I don't see it that way at all.

I bought the camera yesterday morning and had a golf match in the afternoon. My course is on Dartmoor hence the deposit on the golf ball. This substance is something I have been in all my life with only the depth varying.

I'm an amateur photographer albeit I have had a few travel articles published and I am now looking forward to wandering across Dartmoor recording its industrial heritage, a task I think the FZ1000 will be well suited to.

Welcome aboard, Roger - sorry to hear about your camera accident, on the other hand - congratulations on you new camera, ;) .. nice test series, "relaxing" pup is a true winner.. thank you for sharing.

Greetings,

A very nice set. Subconsciously, you wanted the FZ1000 and thus found a reason to purchase one. Freudian Thought for the Day!

I particularly like the rose. A sharper rose I have yet to see.

Best I stop looking at these FZ1000 posts or I might accidentally drive over my new FZ200 :-D

Thank you Vandyu. Leave your camera out and I will do the necessary for you, I'm an expert a it now, :-D

YES! the perfect solution, that "Bum Bag". When I briefly flirted with a larger-than-pocket camera (FZ 18) I found that it continually caught on brush & branches when walking, and it fit in an old Bum Bag I had: the way the bag tapers into the strap left no edges for things to catch on.

Sorry to hear of your loss, but you are recovering well :-)

Hi Bassy,

Great photos, recognise those views. Yes, having read the reviews and seen some photos I think this is the camera for me. Will take some around town and the seafront soon to try to get a handle on all the camera has to offer
