Buy eos M now, or wait?

My wife had a chance to take some photos with an M this weekend. She loved it with both the 22mm and the ef-s 18/55 IS STM on the adapter. I spent some time with it also, but with the 55-250 IS STM.

All 3 lenses worked great. AF was very good and quick with all 3. Photos came out great for us.

She would really like one. and she could use all my current lenses (ef/ef-s) with her adapter, and we could use the same battery and charger (I have the SL1)

My question being, should I get one now (full kit - used, but like new, w/ M 22mm + M 18-55mm + canon adapter + ex 90 flash + canon IR remote, 2 canon batteries w/ charger) for $400?

Is that a good price? Or should I wait to see what canon announces later this quarter - which may drop the price a bit?

Also, is the M2 worth more over the M1 price?

Thanks

Nobody knows when or if an EOS M3 will see the light of day.

Buy the kit now, do not wait, the price is good for all the items you are getting with it.
Upgrade the body later if necessary.

I bought the M2 out of Japan and EF M 11-22 from somewhere over there all from Ebay so far no problems.

Looks like a nice price for the whole kit I must have 800 into mine and only have 90 ex M2 and 11 - 22.

M2 only has quite modest upgrades over the M1.

I've had the M1 since last summer and whole family just loves the camera.

With that price I would personally get the M now. 400$ for the whole kit is not much and you're going to have so much fun with the camera before Canon releases the next version.

Sure, though not so sure the IR remote will work with the M (I could be wrong on this so doublecheck).

The M is my back up and video camera. With 18-55 and Roland R-05 recorder fed into the mic input it does a fine job imho.

The 22mm is an amazing lens. Best value afaik.

Be realistic, $400 on any other system does buy you (if you're lucky) a single prime of desirable quality.

Thanks for the replies. I'll pick it up this afternoon then.

The seller had purchased the full kit in July of last year, and said it has the latest firmware in it.

He showed me the shutter count, using Magic-lantern, as 2820 - which seems pretty modest considering I've put that amount on my SL1 in just one month.

So I think the wife will have a lot of fun with it before it gives up the ghost.

Thanks again.

The IR remote is the only one that will work as the M has no connector for a wired remote. I have used mine sparingly but no problems to date.

I concur that the price sounds good for that complete a kit.

That's a huge bargain, with all the lenses and the full kit of accessories. I got mine for a steal too.

There will always be new cameras, but for me the M is perfect for what it is and I will make good use of it for years to come.

The problem with waiting is that it might not come into fruition and in the meantime you're losing out with great pictures. The camera seems like it's in pristine condition. I've read the features of the M3 which sounds great but then again it might not go to market.

From what I've seen it looks like Canon will be announcing another Rebel for CP+. No concrete evidence that an M3 will ever come to light.

I'd say buy that setup and enjoy it now.

You're on the EOSM forum so of course you will get biased responses here. Doesn't mean they are incorrect, though. Rumors are that Canon will reveal their first 'serious' response to mirrorless by June 2015 at latest.

However, it sounds like you could use the extras including batteries and that your wife doesn't have a body and wants one, in which case, buy the EOS-M bundle now. :)

For that price, I'd get it, for sure. And then immediately get the EF-M 11-22; it's my favorite of the EF-M lenses, for sure, and for the focal length, the best lens you're going to find for any platform unless you spend 2-3x more (and put up with 2x or more in size and weight); it's a truly brilliant lens for the size and price.

Buy it. Don't worry about an M2 or a possible M3 - get the M and just use it, the IQ is excellent, used within its limitations it's a super camera.

I purchased the following kit from eBay approximately one month ago for $420 with shipping. The shipping charge has since dropped a few dollars. It took two weeks from the time I ordered until I received the kit. Everything was new and as described.

I've been using the camera primarily with the 22mm lens and find the IQ to be excellent. I'm also finding the AF to be more responsive than what I was expecting after reading a number of comments on this forum. At this price it's a good buy.

If she didn't have any issues using it I would also say go for it. There may be an M3 and it may even turn up in North America. But who knows for sure.

Based on the cost consider this, the lenses($200), adaptor($70), flash($50), remote and batteries(?) are likely to be worth around $300+ so that means the body cost you around $80. So unless Canon does a major faux pas you can likely use the rest of the kit minus batteries no doubt on any new EOS M that turns up.

Picked it up yesterday. Took the family, and the M, to Beale St in Memphis for lunch. Had some BBQ and listened to some live blues at BB King's place.

For it being so dark inside, the M took some nice photos. Compared to the SL1, they were just about identical in performance.

The wife really likes the 22mm for close indoor photos (at the table or across the aisle), but said the 18-55mm gave her better reach for what she wanted. After taking a few photos with both, the compactness and quality are outstanding.

Thanks for all the advice.

Buy it now .

That sounds like a fun time.

I agree. Enjoy the M. I know I am.
Thanks for all the advice.
