First of all, thanks to Phil. This site is awsome and I have become a loyal follower. I hope this site continues to be as valuable in learning how to use my camera as it was researching cameras. After spending months on this site, I'm sure I won't be dissapointed.

Ok, been researching for several months and have been waiting for Phil's review on the G5. I was undecided on the F717, DSCV-1, Nikon 5400, and the Canon G3. I read the reviews on the G5 and wanted to save some money; I also wanted my life back from researching cameras 24/7 so I got the G3.

After reading many reviews and opinions on this site, I hope I made the right choice. I was hesitant on buying the G3 because it was only 4MP instead of 5MP. I hope I made the right choice.

My only concern is if I will be able to tell the difference between a 5MP and a 4 MP. I've seen all the pictures, downloaded pictures, printed pictures on Kiosks, both 4X6 and 8X11 and couldn't tell that much of a difference between the G3, 717, Nikon 5700, and olympus 750 as far as resolution.

My batteries are charging and will have some fun tonight with the camera. Please tell me I made the right choice...

Thanks for all of your advise and thanks again to Phil and other contributors such as Ulyses, and others.

You screwed up big-time.

Just kidding. I think most of the cameras that you mentioned are pretty good, and if you've done extensive research (like you say you have), you will end up with a camera you like. It does seem like there's a camera for everyone's likes and dislikes, price included.

Enjoy your camera and don't look back ;)

I took the punge a week ago and made some terrific pictures. I still have to learn to play with all the possibilities but I do see good pictures and it´s easy to try some more, enough batterylife. I only want to buy a bigger CF card. Thanks to DP review I also made the choice for the G3.

The G3 is a fine choice. Many people here (including myself) love our G3's, but all the cameras you listed are good cameras. Whether or not the G3 was the right camera for you is a largely a matter of your specific needs/wants, and since you've researched things so carefully, I'm sure you'll be fine.

As for the 4mp vs 5mp, I'm generally in the "the more the better" camp, but it seems that, at least for the G5, there are some tradeoffs. And $200 is a lot for 1 extra mp. And you said yourself you couldn't see much difference, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Use that $200 to buy a 420EX or a 512MB CF card, a spare battery and a lens adapter. Good luck and enjoy your G3!

Of course you'll love the G3. It's a jewel of a camera that is capable of excellent pictures. Enjoy it!

Have confidence in your gut instinct and by the way you bought a camera, and not shares in enron.

Good deal. I went ahead and bought a 256MB CF card to go along with it. I already took about 50 pictures. Not too bad, I just have to learn the advance features. I'm sure this site will help - it has been very helpful!!
