Are there any users of Canon G2 cameras taking portraits?
I would like to know how you solve using manual and manual focus for portraits.

If you have any portraits along with techniques, I would greatly appreciate any help.

My replacement Alien Bee B800 arrived today (the original was smoking) and I will be learning how to take portraits starting out with one light.
Thank you for all of your help.

Hey Peter

I have been using a G2 for portraits for the last 12 months now in my home studio and 1 strobe and reflector,(am now using 3 strobes for fill and Back ground lighting)..go to this address for some of my work..Doris's images are not the best ,must upload better image there..
also go to Zuga
http://www.zuga.net/forums/index.php?s=

and do a search for my posts and Paul Ferrara's earlier images (he started out using G2..now D60..

Anywho..first off,get yourself one of those hot shoe sync cord adaptors and stick it on your hotshoe then attach your sync cord to your light..put your G2 on manual and use a setting of say,F5.6..then press the shutter release and see how your image looks for exposure..use the view setting that shows the histogram, that will show you if you have blown any highlights..keep adjusting either aperture or light power settings until you are spot on..then take a custom reading off something white, preferably a large sheet of white polystyrene that builders use for insulating walls of houses, probably cost you $10..I wont go into anymore detail here just email me if you want more info..OK?

PS why would you want to use manual focus..too cumbersome..stick it on a tripod..and use a good modelling light on your strobe to give your camera something to focus on..OH yeh! get yourself a model too or you can swivel your LCD around and do self portraits,it works great!

Thanks for the help!

I thought that when you used manual you had to focus manually. Obviously I am wrong. I just want the portraits to be pin sharp. Thanks again for the suggestions.
