I want to buy a battery for my a6000 but I find 99$ a rip off by Sony for 1020 mah battery.

I read found this on ebay:

Which Garry Friedman (http://www.friedmanarchives.com/alpha6000/) recommend. He says that these batteries give 85% of NP Fw50. So getting 2 sounds like a good deal.

Or should I stick with the Sony battery?

This is the set I've been using the last couple of years.

It's good?

I've used the Wasabis in my Canon 7D and can't tell the difference from the Canon battery. I wonder if the wasabi charger will charge the Sony battery.

I am using the Wasabi batteries and charger from Amazon. I can't tell the difference in capacity from the Sony battery. The external charger is a plus, as I no longer need to give up using the camera while charging the battery.

I bought the two batteries + charger for ~$30.

The Sony battery claims 1020 mAh capacity, The Wasabi battery claims 1300mAh capacity, supposedly 30% more capacity. Whatever.. When a battery gets low, I pop in another and keep shooting.

I recently bought this and then one battery from the same page on Amazon. I will buy a second now that it seems to work very well. I keep the Sony battery in the camera and the Vivitar as a backup. The charger will charge the Sony battery with no problems.

Thanks, caplanner, that's good to hear. Never used the wasabi charger for my Canon batteries since I have a charger for those. Think I'm getting ready to order the a6000 so that's good news.

Jerry:

I use the Wasabi charger for all of my A6000 batteries, Sony & Wasabi. No differences.

I do the same for my Panasonic camera batteries also. Again, no differences between brand name & third party ones.

Most people use third party batteries with no issues what so ever, but they seem more prone to sometimes failing. There was a huge thread a few months ago started by Mel, in which a few users reported swollen batteries. Personally, I've considered third party batteries, but I decided not to risk it and did not buy any.

Oddly enough, the Sony Center in Managua, Nicaragua has $17 Sony batteries which appear to be genuine. They're old model gray stripe and came in Sony blister packs. Next time I'm in Managua, I'll pick up a few more if they're still there. The all black has an hologram inset that shows different texts at different angles (Sony in all caps at one angle, L and R at two other angles, and what appears to be a serial or model number on two lines at another), and is made in China. The old style gray stripe has a label that says made in Japan and is twice as heavy. New model is engraved on the top. Gray stripe is imprinted.

If anyone else is in a Latin American or Asian city, check to see what prices Sony Centers there are asking for the made in Japan older model.

If you are asking about the Wasibi charger that comes in the Amazon listing for Sony, yes, it charges the batteries.

Thank you
Russell

Stay away from those Vivitar batteries. I bought same and they felt weird, very different weights. I broke open the plastic shells and they had different kinds of cells. One battery had round cylinder shaped cells, the other had flat ones kind of like a cell battery. That was it for me.

Now I only buy Sony or Watson. Watson is like the store brand for B and H. Never had any trouble with them and the build waulity has been excellent with every battery I've bought. I have at least a dozen.

Thanks, Jerry045 and Russell. I didn't want to spring for a Sony charger so the Wasabi batteries and charger will be the way to go.

Wasabi for the win. I have used them for years in multiple GoPro action cams, never had a problem.

Be careful of the charger you buy, it should be the intelligent one that stops pumping full current when the battery is fully charged.

Hello All, I get very good life with the Wasabi batteries for my Canon 6D and about 75% of my Sony NP50 for my Sony A7r and for the cost and you get 2 batteries and a nice charger but I have noticed that the Sony charger charges them longer like the Wasabi stops too early so when using that charger I leave it charging for 30 more minuets and think it get the correct charge.

Also when I see the same battery size say for the SONY system and see someone saying that there battery is 1500 mah or 1950 mah I don't think that's accurate because I don't think China can put more current into a battery than a made in Japan Sony or now Sony made in China.

Just my 2 cents.

Christopher

I bought myself the DSTE NP FW50 Battery on Ebay a couple of months ago.
It's 1950mAh, so it lasts a lot longer, and I could already tell from the first use.

Pretty cheap at $10.99

I originally had 2 Sony batteries and 2 Wasabi ones. After 2 years i noted that my Wasabis were hard to remove from the Nex battery compartment: they had swollen and so I recycled them, bought two new Sony ones and am still traveling with 4 usable flat batteries.

Re chargers: the original Wasabi one made a pop sound in Kuala lumpur when I plugged it in one morning to prepare my batteries and give them full charge. It had a rotating power plug and it was the only charger I had with me, but "POP" it went and did no longer work; I never thought it might bust, but it did.

So off to the Mall I went and bought a Sony charger (my other one was safely at home, why take two? ...) and all was and now is well. Luckily this all happened the day before I was to travel into non-tech, non-mall, non Sony Store native lands in SE Asia such as inner Borneo ...

There is a difference of what will hold up in the jungle and what will let you down. What does/did that camera of yours cost again? How much does a battery cost in comparison?

My angel saved me from disaster in June. Do you have an angel?
