D750 - Switched off, but turns on when shutter pressed?

Just got a D750 -

The Power switch is off. If I depress the shutter button the top LCD panel lights up like the power is on and if I press again the flash popped up and focused and fired, a picture was taken.

Is this normal or does my shiny new camera have an issue.

Thanks,

Richard

I thought the camera just went into sleep mode but if the power switch is actually at OFF, then yes, your camera is malfunctioning. Send it back.
Would some D750 owner be able to grab their camera and tell me:

If with the power off.

If you press and hold the shutter. Does the camera turn on? Top LCD panel displays data?

If you hold the shutter button.

Does the camera fire?

Thanks!

I can't test with my copy cause it's at Nikon Service getting new LCD (Light leak & dead pixel). The ? is, does your camera demonstrate the horizontal banding when flare is present? See related posts on DPR.

Thank you for the reply!

No man, that's not normal. Send it back!

When my D750 is off it doesn't react to the shutter release button. I think there is a problem with your camera. It should be corrected under warranty.

Thanks All!

I am returning it to the store for a replacement. At least that is my plan!

This is not normal behaviour, so you could send it back.

Wait .... On the other hand you have a camera with a wonderful idea. You do not have to turn it on to shoot. Just press the shutter button and beat all to the picture !!

I think there was some kind of short in shutter button. It was also double firing the shutter sometimes.

I was able to exchange without issue. the guy at the store was a bit shocked when I showed it to him.

My new D750 had the same problem when I bought it. I returned it and got a new one.

No reason for the person to react shocked. Sometimes a camera, although it passed several quality checks, can be faulty. That is why they ever invented warranty. When you bring it back to the store, it is a bit inconvenient for the staff, because they must send it back. But they also get a (new) replacement from Nikon.

Great you could change it there. When you had bought one on the net, you had to send it back yourself and wait till something came back to you. And during the holly days it could have lasted days or more than a week.

enjoy shooting

I just tested mine, NO It does NOT turn the camera on, nor does it flip the Flash Up. Looks like your unit is defective? Sorry....

But do not despair, just look at what you have to look forward to:
