My primary Lens is the 105/2.8 macro which I use for close ups of plant parts, and I use the 35 for just all around lens

I am trying to decide on another Prime between the 35 and 105, for wider shots of whole plants, trees, etc. I am guessing a 50 or 80 mm.

Does anyone have have any recommendation for a lens that would be distinctly different from the 35 and 105?

Need to know if you are on DX or FX. Too wide a gap from 35 to 105.

not sure if you have a DX 18-55VR2, 18-140VR or FX 24-120 F4, 24-70 2.8 in your bag?

Yes you can get 50 1.8G, 85 1.8G, DX micro 85 3.5G

60mm micro if you like, but the 50mm 1.8 is the obvious choice.

I use all primes. I carry a 35, a 50, and the 105 Macro. I am happy with that lineup. I rarely carry all three at once. Sometimes you want a bit more reach than a 35 but not a telephoto focal length. It works on the street as well as landscapes. The 50 mm f/1.8G is what I selected. I think you will be satisfied with it on DX as well as FX too.

Agree that the 50 f/1.8 is the logical choice. But I used it much less with my D300 than with FX. Unless you need a short portrait lens today you will be unlikely to use it much until you change bodies. I bought my 24-70 when I was in your situation.
