I have just noticed a piece of rolled fluff until it stared to walk around the inside of my viewfinder. Its a brute, if you imagine the viewfinder being a 14 inch telly screen, its comparison is equivalent to a 2 inch beetle walking on your telly screen. How can I get this out? they are talking funny money at the shops. Is it possible for me to do it? What gets me is how did it get in!.............

Hi, Pete
Here's a link to a good step-by-step guide on disassembly.

Hmmmmmm, what you need is to coax a lizzard into the lens system to get the beetle. Simple problem has a simple solution :-)
Splitting the lens is tricky.

I'll give this a go after, cheers, it looks very helpful.....I'll let you all know if I mess up, but I reckon I'll sort it.

What gets me is how did it get in!
Sorry to hear about it Pete. I had a bunch of little bugs in my 4900 two years ago, 2mm long max, very tiny and thin, but I could clearly see them crawling on and off the big lcd! (on the inside of course)

I'm pretty sure it happened during a walk through pretty tall grass and stuff, not having the cam above all that all of the time... stupid, I know.

My theory is/was that they came in through the gaps the evf rubber (same on the 4900 as on the 6900), have a look at it, not a real good fit (on the inside). I solved it with a home made plastic 'inlay' for the evf.

If it worked... I'm not sure, but I never had a problem after. (cam was cleaned, had a spot on the ccd too)

I still have that inlay in my 602 by the way (better safe than sorry, and you don't notice it), though they do seem to have improved that evf rubber, fits better now.

Peter, is the monster in just the finder or on the image (and thus visible on teh larger LCD screen)? (I don't even know if t 6900 has an EVF.)

My point is if it is in the finder, we certainly don't want to do surgery to the sensor array!.

Best I can describe is that it does 'not' show up on the big screen at the back of the camera when viewed through it. It does 'not' show up on the images after taking a shot. The only way it can be seen is when powered up and inside the viewfinder. BTW...Do you ever remember that old film called 'The Tingler' LoL...with Vincent Price? well it reminds me of when the Tingler crawled across the screen in the cinema and everybody screamed in terror. Maybe I should refer to it as a Tingler from now on............. Incidentally, I have never had my camera anywhere near hazardous dusty places, I have always had a lens adaptor on with a filter to stop things getting in that way. I have the camera stripped down at the moment on the table, but I am very apprehensive about taking leaps of faith.

Oh! and BTW, is this insect (tingler) likely to be on my CCD or within the viewfinder? I have stripped it down to the viewfinder and that is a pretty well sealed unit. The viewfinder seems to be just a optical gateway to a more likely suspect, like a little camera within a camera. What I am getting at is, the viewfinder is enabling me to see the insect remotly from itself....
Dunno if that makes sense, but I just aint too technical on these things....

Try a Beetle of the opisate sex!

How about taking you camara in for a cleaning?

Pete, The viewfinder assembly can be taken apart...you just need to gently pull it from the camera (once the camera back is removed, that is, and be careful of the connecting wires) then pry it apart with a small screwdriver blade. I've done so on mine to vacuum out the dust that can build up inside.
