HI!!!

I just got a Canon Rebel T5i for CHRISTmas & wanted a great photo editing program to go with it!
Soooo, I bought (after much research) Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5!!! (On Cyber Monday for a Great Deal, to boot)...
After looking into the program after I received it I realized 2 things I hadn't seen on the site offering this great product, it was MY oversight...likely bc I was SO EXCITED!!!

I own a Toshiba M505-S4945 it's got a Pentium 2 Duo Core & I can't tell what the "Graphics" card is that is has... All the other specs seem to be fine to run the program-
Can anyone tell me, (I haven't ran the software in this laptop as of yet) can I run this program on my current laptop until I can replace it, OR is it possible to "Upgrade" any of the hardware I'll need to get by for some time yet?

I also have a 350 mb external hard drive that holds my pictures-!

If you need any other info that could help me, just ask-
THANK YOU SO MUCH, For ANY & ALL HELP!!!

SeriouslyDisappointed,
~nicci

Also, any advice on purchasing of a new laptop able to handle Lightroom 5, welcomed too!!

Important note, my current & next laptop is/ will be
used for Pictures ONLY!!
:)

You need to check and see if your Core2Duo processor is supported by LightRoom. If it isn't, the software won't install.

Lightroom doesn't take advantage of fancy graphics cards, so no problem there.

Your external drive is probably 350 GB, not MB.

Here is what I reccomend:

1) When you get your new computer, get a Mac, with 8 GB of RAM. See if you can trade your lightroom for the Mac version (you probably can)

2) You should have at least two external hard drives, and they need to be larger: Look for 750 GB at least. And they should support USB 3.0. The USB 3.0 feature makes my drives five times faster. It's important. One drive holds your photos and the other is backup.

More advice:
For photos, your computer needs two things: Lots of storage and a great display. It doesn't need the fastest processor or a special graphics card.

Macs, even the Mac Mini, are absolutely fantastic. Just get one with 8 GB of RAM (although mine has four and it works great).

Lightroom is possibly the only paid software you need. Macs come with a lot of software built-in.

Whether you buy a Mac or not, a great display is fantastic. You can buy Apple's display, but any one will work. Try to buy an IPS display.

I checked a c/net review, and your computer seems to a pretty standard Windows laptop which will run Lightroom or Photoshop with no problems.

The review gives sample speeds when running Photoshop. If it runs Photoshop, it will certainly run Lightroom.

At some point you will need a bigger USB external drive. A self-powered 2 Terabyte drive will hold plenty of images. A self-powered USB hub is useful, so you can plug both drives into one USB socket on the computer.

No need to rush out and buy a new computer.

I have an Asus laptop with similar specs to your computer. I upgraded mine with a SSD, which improved the performance somewhat, but it still chugs along slowly compared to my desktop PC. When handling multiple files, I go out for a cup of tea to let it do it's thing.

For that reason, I don't bother with Lightroom on my laptop. I installed Photoshop Elements 11 on it for basic editing and it does open RAW files, although it does not handle it as well as Lightrrom. I basically use my laptop for previewing images and basic editing on site.

Some sort of monitor calibration tool will benefit any laptop or desktop monitor and I highly recommend spending the $100 to get the best colours from your display device. A good IPS monitor is the most important element of your setup.

It doesn't matter if you use PC or Mac, but the choice of system should be based on what other kinds of software you intend to run on your system. Since my PC is tricked out for gaming, it runs Lightroom silky smooth. My sister uses it on her Macbook and recently upgraded to SSD. She noticed a performance bump in her system.

I suggest you post in the PC and Mac Talk forums for computer suggestions and recommendations. The computer demi gods reside there.

Sorry I can't help re: Lightroom, although I don't know why it -wouldn't- install. Why not try and see?

re: Mac. The above post is not a universally shared opinion. I have three PCs (inc. laptop) and 1 MacBook Pro which I rarely use and find so UNfriendly. Needless to say, I'm not a Mac fan, don't think it's at all intuitive and feel you get so much more "bang for your buck" with a PC. Just throwing that in there--and casting a vote for PS elements as a photo editor, even Picasa (which is free), if you're just getting started. Lightroom's great to have, but may make more sense later.
