My new G7x having issues with video focussing?

Hi guys,

So I just recently purchased a G7x a few days ago, and although I do love it, it seems to be having issues with video focussing, but I just wanted to make sure.

I don't know if you can notice, but throughout the video it seems the camera doesn't lock onto the target, and it keeps wavering back and forth. Even when it does find my friend's face, it seems to continuously search for focus.

One thing to note, however, was that the automatic face-finding mode was on. Could it just be that because my friend's face was moving around that it kept trying to refocus? Even then, it seems like it's a little too much, though.

Can anyone tell me what they think? Anyone have experience with this camera and its face-finding feature? Does it seem a little out-of-whack, or is that normal for this mode?

As you can see, even though the camera focusses on my face, throughout the entire video it keeps reforcussing, as shown by the boken that keeps wavering.

I'm thinking even with the auto face-detection on, it shouldn't be doing that... any thoughts?

Are you shooting in Standard or Manual Mode (Select Menu and the first option at the top will put you in Standard or Manual). If you're in manual it will allow you to select both the aperture and shutter speed, which conversely you can use to set the aperture to get more in focus.

Yea... I don't know. The camera doesn't have a problem making that initial focus on the face; the issue is the system keeps trying to refocus over and over even after making that initial focus, so I'm not sure setting the aperture/shutter speed will help with that.

I really think I'm going to chalk it up to a defective focus system, and try and get an exchange.
