sony A7 II released!!

Damn you Sony !

I saved up money since the release of the A7 last year and just got it not even a month ago !

Now you are already making a Mark II ?

Well seriously that's nasty ! My 1300€ investement is just gone in the wind ! Hope this will be priced at 1600€ at launch or Sony should really make a 300€ money return for those like me!

Seriously i m really sad to learn about this ! Happy for Sony but sad for my pockets !

I think they really qhould make a money return program...

Honestly, this does not make your A7 take any worse photos than it did yesterday.....

My advice? Use the A7 for a 8 months or so, and if you still feel the need, then buy an A7II when the pricing comes down (or wait til the 3rd generation comes along). This is a nice update, but aside from the IBIS, there are things that are still not quite where I would want them to be to motivate my ditching my A7 for it ...plus it IS bigger.

That's a pretty poor mentality to live with. The A7 is as capable now as when you bought the camera, and will not suffer in any way due to the A7II. The investment should be in yourself and your own style of photography.

...about the Olympus E-M5 was the 5 axis IBIS. Now the A7 has it. This is for sure my next camera.

pretty harsh to jump down his throat .. it's a valid point. the sale / resale value will dump like a rock before he's even got a chance to break it in any, and now there's an improved model out.

he's got a reason to air off a bit. for all you know he didn't need it until the new year and could have waited.

Funny that you don't mention the FE 16-35mm being significantly smaller than the DSLR lens counterparts. The FE 24-70mm f/4 is lighter than its Canon counterpart (460g vs 600g). The 70-200,, F/4 is an exception it seems ;-)
I did not mention 16-35/4 because I am using 10-18 E which as you probably know is perfectly fine on FE cameras between 12 to 16mm. That lens is only 200 grams or so! :)

According to SAR the weight incl. battery and card is only 556g - in that case only 82g more than the A7.

The only thing that seem to have grown in size is the grip. Bravo.

best advice is use it until you feel you can afford the delta price of the A7 and the A7II - watch the resale values and the new values - if this is anything like other sony cameras it'll probably be going on sale in jan / feb anyways.

find a good time to sell your A7 (keep it in great condition and all packaging btw) and switch it up. your "lease price" should at least be minimized somewhat but it's still probably going to higher than you'd like.

And that show how poor your mentality is to offend someone with an answer like that.

In my place you'll feel "betrayed". I love Sony and i've been a nex owner since day 1. I just can't swallow this alright ?

By the way, is there confirmation that IBIS is just like in Olympus, would work with all Legacy lenses? because you know there are other types of In-body Stabilizaton that are weird. Like Panasonic GX7 Stab does not work for video. I dont know what software Sony wrote for that IBIS. I hope it is one of the kind that works for all legacy lenses and video.

Also, I am still not sure, why Sony made this EV-1 sensitivity while they have EV-4 in A7s. There are more cameras with -3 (Canon 6D, Nikon D810) and -4 (Nikon D750). Why limit the A7II? because it is a budget model? I assume A9 will have all bells and whistles but then will probably cost close to $3000.

I bought the A7 10 days ago. The shop I bought it at has a 14 day return policy. So, I'm in a bit of a conundrum. I just ordered a Gariz case for the new camera. Wondering if I should take the camera back and then wait for the A7II to come to Canada. Wondering how long that would be?

I love the camera and today its as good as it was yesterday.

How much better is the A7II??

Now--if my Leica wide angle lenses will play nicely with this, it will be on my list to buy. Anyone have any sense that Sony has worked on that issue?

Just grow up...

Sony does not owe you anything. Would you contact Sony directly to tell them you are moving from brands? What about Nestle that you will be also changing brands.

It sucks that you bought a camera recently but it did not suddenly stop working just because a new model is released.

If you can't control your feelings because a company released a new model, business as usual, then you are in a problem my friend. You better not buy anything. Ever again.

Opinions on these lenses from my old maxxum 7000?

MINOLTA MAXXUM AF 50mm f1.7

TAMRON AF aspherical LD (IF) 28-300 MACRO

SIGMA super-wide II f/2.8 24mm multi-coated manual focus

SIGMA ZOOM 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 MACRO AF

I'm in the market for my first DSLR/ILC and I'm wondering if any of these lenses are...

1) going to work well adapted to E-mount on an A7 or a6000

2) reason enough to consider Sony over Pentax K-3 or Nikon 5300/7100 which are on my shortlist

thanks

Wow, this has been worth waiting for! :)

Any place doing pre-orders in EU?

I want to get one, but I also want warranty on it :)

  • For OSS E-mount lenses, the two stabilization systems will work together.
Okay, now that's impressive to me. Neat.
Yes, a smart move IMO. More impressive to me is that it can be expected to work well: the A7II stabilization is rated at 4.5 stops CIPA. As a reference, the Olympus 3-axis bodies are rated 3.5 stops and the 5-axis bodies 4 stops CIPA.

So hopefully a little better. Quite a feat given the FF sensor is much heavier to throw around.

Bravo

It's as if the design/management team of Nikon behind the D300/D700 series moved on over to work at Sony. Or as someone else put it, the brightest engineering talent are choosing to work at Sony over Canon and Nion. Sony's definitely not afraid to self cannibalize in pushing innovation.

I won't be surprised if I find myself reading about the A7iii a year from now.

Need you ask? Those will all work well.
