hello all,

I'm planing to buy PowerShot s400 for a 3 months trip. on some weeks I will only be able to recharge batteries once every 4-5 days.

should i buy an extra battery for the trip?

please relate to flash, number of pictures, etc.

(i didn't understand anything on battery life from the review... it's too complicated... ;)

I would suggest that you buy two extra batteries. On a recent trip to Hawaii with my S50 (similar battery life) I found that I got about 100 shots on a charge (if I only used the flash a few times per 100). I was taking about 70-100 pictures per day. So if you are only going to recharge once every 4-5 days I think you will sometimes find that some great pictures will get away (some sort of Murphy's law about the best pictures are waiting to be taken just when you battery or CF card runs out).

In general its a good idea to have an extra battery with s400 since it does not have a battery meter. So you won't know almost until its dead that you need to replace the battery.

Ron Parr posted a link in this forum to buy a replacement batter for $8.99.

regd, how many photos you can shoot with a single battery, I am not sure.. I heard people talk about 200+.

Atleast 1 more battery and another CF card incase one goes bad/corrupted. buy a tripod too.

I agree. Even though the battery life is amazing on the S400 (I've gotten over 200 shots on one charge with LCD on), it's still handy to have an extra battery so that you're never caught without any battery. On this camera there's hardly any warning when the battery will die.

Absolutely, get another battery. I agree with the posters above one will give about 100 shots...but you can't compare that with film, where 100 shots get you through a week; with digital, especially an ew DC, you might do 100 in a day.
Come home throw 85 away, hopefully end with 5 brilliant and 10 good shots a day.

That's one very strong point of DC's: you can allow to take each shot several times, it's free, no variable costs. But that is after the investment in DC, batteries and cards.

Hi:

I would suggest that you take an extra battery on your trip (and not just because I sell them!), our newest batteries do last for several hundred shots normally but,... When it comes down to brass tacks it's a whole lot better to always have a backup for a once in a lifetime experience.

I hope that you enjoy your trip!

The subject correctly lists the price as $8.99. According to their website, shipping and handling is $6.99 The total price is therefore $15.98.
