advantage of leaf shutter? FUJI X100(S)

And that's the accompanying advantage of the leaf shutter: your flash does not have to be a high power strobe -- a small external unit (and sometimes even the built in flash) will do. That is because you can take advantage of a large-aperture/short-shutter-speed combination, which is not as possible with a focal plane shutter (longer shutter sync speed requires smaller aperture which requires more light from flash). So the leaf shutter allows you bring a smaller flash.
yep Ive used my puny aaa battery-powered EFX20 flash, the little flash that gets little love on this forum, for this kind of work with splendid results.

Here's an example of Ariel at Red Rocks W of Denver in midday sun, with an EF-X20 @ 1/16 power. Ive actually done similar shots with the X100S's built-in flash, and it's no power demon (just make sure the lens hood is not attached or you get a shadow).

I had just bought the EF-X20, and we were experimenting, 1/1000 and above made the background too dark, so we settled on 1/800 or less. 1/500 was the best balance here by far. And the mechanical in-lens leaf shutter was THE main reason I bought the X100S.
