I've been a long time user of Test Strip and have really missed its functionality since moving to Mac OS X. Test Strip is one of the few Photoshop plug-ins I consider essential for digital photographers...and the only one I use that wasn't available on OS X.

The great news I wanted to share is that the functionality I wanted most in Test Strip is coming to OS X (and Windows, of course) through its successor: 20/20. I was invited to a special sneak preview of the product last month. The author said it was OK to post to the forum, so I'm not violating any nondisclosures or anything.

To put it briefly, I'm really impressed with what I've seen so far. For those of you who used Test Strip, the Metamorphosis feature has been greatly improved. I think the overall interace is also better.

I value Test Strip for its ability to quickly and relatively effectively adjust color balance and saturation quickly and easily. 20/20 has a more streamlined interface (should be much easier to learn how to use it to adjust color), as well as a more logical way to make final adjustments. And it should help [somewhat] extend the limited dynamic range of images taken with digicams.

I can't wait to work with the program, as the sneak preview was "read about it and look at the examples, including screen shots of the interface". But as I'm off on an extended trip, I wanted to share this news with folks on the forum. The new plug-in should be available before I return (this is a really extended trip...don't know if I'll survive without my usual access to the Internet and these forums).

Maybe this is good news to some of you.

I, too, have missed Test Strip and was delighted to hear that its successor, 20/20 MD, would be available shortly. I've seen its User's Manual and, from that viewing, I'm looking forward to actually using the product.

Unfortunately, it's not a direct replacement for the Test Strip feature I miss most: the ability to print a single test print that has strips of the image, each with different print settings. I'm hoping this feature will find its way in 20/20 MD.

20/20 is coming out for both Mac OS X, Windows XP, and several other versions of Windows, I believe. I'm traveling now and don't have access to all my normal data. We shouldn't have long to wait to find out, though.
