I accidently hit the send botton on the first attempt, and I am not sure if this is the right place for this post. I have been an apple phone user, but it has been getting harder for me to see the things on the screen. I would like to try an apple 6 plus but my daughter argues that a samsung galaxy note will be better, or at least that what sge wants to buy

Note 4 is too small, try xperia z ultra.

If you struggle with your current phone a slightly bigger screen is not going to make much difference. Why not get some better reading glasses or multi-focal contact lenses?

Not quite true. I have fairly bad eyesight and look at screens all day. I have a Samsung Note 2, and whenever I see the old iPhones from a friend I feel like the screen is really small and cramped. And even with my big phone, I still prefer reading on a monitor screen to reading on the phone screen.

Ok, is there anyone left in DPR that isn't old?

What about talk quality? Seems to me the sound (talking) is litlle clearer on the samsung, not as mufffled as on my Iphone. And which takes the better pictures?

I'll be 65 in 18 days, I use the Samsung Galaxy S5 as a phone and as an ebook reader with no problems. The call quality is good, and graphics quality is reasonable. I've read that the iPhone 6 plus has a slightly larger screen than the Galaxy S5.

I suspect that the iPhone will serve adequately for most applications for a person with middle-aged eyes. That being said, the Note will probably serve as a graphics and text platform even better for a person with middle-aged eyes.

However, you need to balance the larger screen with the overall portability of the Note. I seriously considered the Note, but after handling one, I decided to go with the smaller S5. I figured that if the S5 didn't function reasonably well as a graphics and text platform, I could always buy one of those cheap Android tablets. That way, I would have portability when I need it, and a larger screen when I need it, all for about the same price (or less) than the Note.

My advice is to try to handle both before making a final decision. The smartphone is such an important part of our lives any more that having a phone you don't like is pretty much a PITA.

I am 78 yrso and still use the Samsung Galaxy S3. I am very familiar with the iphones, both of my daughters use them. I consider the S3 the perfect size, fits my hand perfectly. The phones (by the way, we have got to come up with a different name for these devices, I consider my Motorola Tundra a phone) are getting way to big. They are getting close to tablet size, just too unwieldly to handle. That's why I didn't get the S4 or S5, way too big.

Ok, seriously, why AARP doesn't advertise on DPR is one of the biggest advertising blunders of all time.

Do you do ANYTHING besides make snarky comments about age on the forum? Do you even OWN a camera?

This might help.

wrong forum. There is a mobile photography talk forum on here which is more appropriate for your question.

Did you read the first sentence in the opening post . . . ?

The one before the long list of unconcerned respondents.
