Challenge Topic:

Submit photos in which a road or a pathway appears as a prominent feature. The setting should suggest quiet or solitude.

Please consider adding a caption to the photos for interest, backstory, and/or location

Note to "Exhibitionists";
Please consider submitting an entry as well. We love your photos and want to honor them with consideration. A challenge full of non-entries is boring. Exhibitions should be used for those who have more than three photos to share, as in; "Here are a few more that may not be quite as good, but I like anyway" and not as a "please don't pick me" strategy. All submissions not explicitly marked as "Exhibition" will be considered an entry.

Challenge rules:

1. Enter photos: 'Entry' to Win, or 'Exhibition' to Show.

2. Entries to Win: up to 3 Shots.

3. Exhibitions to Show: are encouraged and unlimited. Put the word Exhibition in the Header of your post if you do not want to be chosen as the next host. If you post more than 3 photos, label entries and exhibitions clearly. If you leave shots unlabeled, the first three in your post will be eligible to be chosen as winners.

4. Photos from any camera taken at any time. Also encouraged (not required): a title, a story, description of conditions, settings, post processing, etc. so we can all learn what works and what doesn't.

5. Submitting photos: for clarity, it is best to reply to this original post, (rather than under someone else’s post), and to change the subject line of your post to suit your images.

6. Comments on other people's photos definitely add to the fun, the comments may be the best prize.

7. Host will select and announce the winners at the end date. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place winners will be chosen, (as well as some honorable mentions if the host wants to).

8. 1st Place Winner Hosts the next Mini-Challenge. Pick a theme; start a new thread; give a description and some samples of what you have in mind; copy and paste, change the end date (and tweak the rules a little bit if you wish).

9. 2nd Place Winner becomes the host if the 1st place winner requests that for any reason.

BY ROBERT FROST - please forgive the clumsy formatting....

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

I looked at it as large as I could & it looks imposing - you can almost feel the heat. We're considering doing a big road trip west next summer that could touch on both death valley and the monuments. I'm not sure how well the AC in our little car could deal with 120F however...

A few roads and paths...

Thanks for sharing these! It's hard to pick a favorite, but I especially like #1,4 & 8. I'm a sucker for autumn leaves. The contrast between the colorful leaves and the white snow in #4 is especially nice - including that single leaf perched on the fencepost.

A different take on "Roads Less Traveled". Sometimes I just blaze my own trail when I want to go the untraveled way.

Took this in Israel. This is a walkway taken by Hannibal and many others as they entered Israel from the Mediterranean by way of the Jaffa Port in ancient times.

I have always liked this picture taken at the St. Louis Botanical Gardens. Just makes me feel "relaxed". It is on my iPhone as my 'wallpaper'. The wooden walkway goes around the front 25% of the pond as I remember. Taken with a 2MP Nikon Coolpix E800 years ago!

Lovely shot!

I always admire good stonework - looks timeless.

Looks more like a beautiful walkway between a house and its pool than a road. I would be interested to learn more about Israel.

It's easy to forget that there is more to a pleasant image than mind-blowing resolution. Sometimes 2MP is all you need to appreciate a scene.

BAM! Great shot! Love the rays of light!

B&W often doesn't work well when the texture of a shot is so busy, and I love the colors of a forest, but your B&W treatment here is very nice.

In 2010 our family stayed a couple of nights in Cesky Krumlov and rafted down the Vltava River for a few miles through the peaceful woods. Nice memory.

This was taken not too long before the new bridge opened up...Now you can no longer drive over the Dam....
