s400 Cases...

Isn't it a hassle having to thread the wrist strap thru the little
hole every time you want to put the camera back into the case?
Yup, that's why I never bother doing so with mine; I just let the strap hang to the left- or right-hand side. :-)

Tony

Doesn't bother me, it slips through immediately and I feel it is safer that way. I loop the long wrist strap once around my belt. Sort of a safety cord.

I don't think you can get smaller than the Canon case. It is cut
away on top to allow the metal wrist strap holder and strap to stay
on the outside of the case with the flap over it.

I agree, but I like the leather one Canon designed for the s400 the best. I don't leave home without it. ;)

Thanks!
I had pretty much narrowed it down to these 2. They seem like the
smallest, but I was really hoping for something without a flap
(Tarmac) or a locking clip (Optech). I can't believe that there
isn't something that you can just slip the camera into (kind of
like a laptop sleeve). I don't need it to be all sealed up, I just
don’t want it to get all scratched up in my pocket. I'll probably
go with the Tarmac 5688 for now, and keep looking for the ideal
S400 sleeve.

Well, I too love my little 400. After purchasing I went out and
bought a few different cases to see which I liked the best. The one
I use the most is this expensive ($50) Tumi cell phone case. It's
really great for my use. Great construction, metal belt clip,
magnetic snap.
That looks like stiff material (nylon?). If there's any movement of the camera, I'd be concerned that, over time, the edge of the flap would rub against the camera case and remove the finish (despite it being "Cerabrite").

I'm already having problems with the belt loop on my Canon-brand case wearing through, due to rubbing against my stiff leather belt. It's not quite the same thing but whenever there's a chance of movement, you'll also get friction, and ultimately abrasion.

It's actually soft leather with a nylon insert on the outside. I checked it out pretty well. I really don't see any problems at this time. Many of the cheap cases have a plastic belt clip. This one has a metal one covered in leather. Anyway, I have a few different cases for different uses. This one I like the best. It also makes it real easy to grab and shoot. Some have a belt clip which is great if you want to easily take the whole thing off and others have a belt loop which is great if you want to make sure the case will not fall off.

I have a PSC-50 for my S-230 and although it is a perfect fit for the camera only, I find on hot days the adhesive that is used to fasten the velcro material to the cover flap seeps from the edges and gets on everything!!!
Canon said "non warranty item" :(

Although the S400 fits slightly loosely within the PTX-L50 case,
this case is a zipper pouch with no flap.

The Canon PSC-50 uses a flap-style case; while possibly a tighter
fit for the S400, the flap may add a bit more depth. I have not
personally seen this case - maybe someone who has can comment on
the effect of the flap on the case's pocketability.

My choice is the TAMRAC 206. Fits like a glove. Protects well but is not padded. The price is right!

I've seen mention of the Tamarac 5690 and was wondering what other
cases are being used for the s400? Personally, I would like the
smallest available to be worn on a belt. I'm not concerned with
carrying any accessories as those can be put in my pocket (extra
battery/cf cards).

I read all the other posts and here is my take

I too was looking for a skin tight case that would protect my s400 camera and I tried several ones and I found I kept coming back to the canon leather case psc-50. I too want to be able to put the camera in my pocket with the case on. In my opinion the canon leather case is the best one if you want a snug fit. As for the belt clip and hole for the strap... I haven't had any problem or anything.

I did notice scratches on the leather case itself... this is shows its effectiveness ... better scratches on the leather then on the camera.

Also I put a post about a problem I have with my s400. Can fellow s400 owners comment on my other post.

thanks!

I hate belt clips. That is a way to drop or lose a camera. I am a believer of a belt loop. Easy will one day cost you.

I ended up getting the Pentax first and then when I saw that Dell is selling the PSC-50 for $9 (inc shipping) I figured I'd get that too.

I like the close fit of the Canon case, but the Pentax has the advantage of not leaving any parts of the camera exposed (could be important in one's pocket.)

BTW, Dell outlet is at:

That's terrible. Sorry about that. How hot was it and did you leave it by chance in a hot car or something? I live in Las Vegas and it gets hot here all the time. So far in the heat there has been no problem, but I will keep a close eye on the glued velcro material. Thanks for the head up. BTW, you should be able to go the a shoemaker and have it re-glued for a buck or two. Their glue might not be so sensitive to heat. Let us know what happens.

During a few weeks of use, the threading on one side of the black Canon case started to unravel. It's a great looking camera case but the fit is just a tad too comfy. Also, the S400's mode wheel keeps getting knocked into various other modes than the one I set it at because of the too comfy fit. Don't get me wrong, I still like it. But I prefer the bulkier and more roomy Lowepro D-Res 8S (the new 8s model is slightly slimmer looking than older one but it's still called the 8s but with a darker logo on front of case) which also provides more padding for protection against accidental (are there ever any intentional ones?) knocks and bangs.

I bought a Tamrac 5688 Case from ebay and I noticed the same seller selling another one. I had a good experience with this seller and the case is really good. I like it.

So if anyone is interested in buying a Tamrac 5688 Case, check the following link:

Just being helpfull!

Hi Marco,

I live in Sydney too and was wondering where I could get one of these cases for my s400?

btw, you're pics are awesome

thanks
Michael
I'm using the leather case designed for the normal APS Elph cameras
from Canon. The s400 was designed on the APS Elph 1 & 2 body and
fits tight and snug. The thick leather protects against external
impact damage. The belt loop is double-stitched and tight enough
that the case doesn't swivel or move on the belt.

Cheers
