Apple just released a 27" 5K Retina Display iMac. Could be the best photographic accessory ever for the new FZ1000 and LX100 camera.

I can't wait to check it out.

Den

P.S. And no, I don't work for Apple!

thanks for that news i guess a few of us will be out taking shots and then going into a mac shop with our sd cards.if the fz1000 pictures look great i cant think what my sigma dp2 merrill shots will look like,,i have just looked at the price in the uk nearly 2 thousand pounds

4K video would look stunning and slideshows would be mesmerizing as would editing images, but a lot of my favorite apps are simply not available on the Mac. Don't know how well they would run if at all, under Windows emulation? Anyone with experience there? The omission of optical drives in later models is typical of Apple arrogance, they want their cult members to tow their line instead of catering to the whims of the unwashed masses.

It's almost tempting to take that bite and become a heretic, it's the forbidden fruit thing :-P

Pure marketing. At 27 inches, you would not be able to distinguish between a 4K and a 5K screen. But of course, people always go for the highest number (look at the megapixel ratings on cameras in the 2000s.) Apple does market well, you've got to give them credit.

Glad to see there are still some Apple bashers around.

I've got the last gen iMac 27", which has a CD slot.

Upgraded it to 32GB of RAM, plus a 1TB SSD drive. Cost, if i remember correctly, was around $600 for same. The Samsung SSD was $409 at the time and I think it's even cheaper now.

Also runs Win 7 under Parallels.

Best computer I've ever had, bar none.

The screen is simply delicious.

And for the record I've got a standalone Dell PC.

I'm more than fine with 4K, but i do believe that the more pixels, the more able you are to modify the smallest part of an image more precisely
You can change an area as small as one pixel with various tools right now if you want to.

I have a 1440p screen at the moment, and it's nice, but graphics editing is not any easier or harder than it was on my 1080p monitor. You need to zoom in to do fine work no matter what.

I have a shooter friend who was quite happy with his Laptop PC, then his son in law talked him into an IMac, now he is clueless and I haven't a clue how to help him. Glad to hear it's working for you, it's encouraging.

If I can in fact run Win 7 and all my apps, then I might commit the cardinal sin of sleeping with the enemy :-D

Sergei

sounds encouraging, although I hope it applies to Win 7 64 bit, I want to stay there.

Then there is the issue of licensing, does one have to pay for extra sites for the OS and all the apps?

I like my CS6 and don't want to stick my head in the cloud, another arrogant move by software vendors.

Cheers

Sergei
Your CS6 license should allow you to install it on two computers.

PS: And should you ever wish to switch over to the dark side, let me recommend expercom.com.

At least it looks nice on my 2 year old Dell U2410 driven by my MacBook Pro!

I can rationalize going to a newer bigger monitor to minimize strain on my aging eyes. But I really don't want to go back to a desktop system. Can my MBPro Retina Mid 2012 (16GB, 2.7GHz i7) drive a 27" 5K monitor (if/when they become common)? For stills? For video?

Many thanks!

A 40inch 5K would be awesome but a 27inch is a meh IMHO. And at 3 grand, I'd rather buy a 60 inch Smart TV.

AUD 2999.00 in Oz, That's currently equivalent to USD 2631.62, only 5.26% above the USA :-)
