how much better for action shots with 79 AF points in A77 II vs 19 in A77

morning and I was trying to setup for that condition (ISO1600, etc. but maintaining f8) when the rabbit darted. I wanted to go at higher shutter speed (normal for me is around 1/1600 and above but at sunny condition). I could only do 1/750 and exposure was already underexposed. With manual setting in my normal sunny setup, I had the front wheel setup for shutter speed; thus, during actual shooting and depending upon the subject, I just try to control light through the shutter speed with fixed aperture and ISO.

cheers,

gil
Great capture Gil. Did you do the manual settings on the fly, or were you just lucky having them preset?

I don't shoot water sports. I've posted a whole bunch of fast action shots with the A77ii since I got mine on June 13th.

There is simply no comparison. The A77ii is the best APS-C sports cam on the market. The Canon 7D Mk2 may beat it in a few weeks but it's going to have to be mighty good - and you're going to have to be willing to spend a few hundred for the difference.

I did a fairly lengthly review on the A77II as I shot soccer, volleyball, and lacrosse. I' ve since shot some football too and the 79 points are a huge deal. They allow the camera to AF when you are loose. It's always easier for AF systems to work when they fill the frame. This is why so many of us at Sports Illustrated shoot in center AF or in a tight grouping most of the time--because we like to be tight on the action. It's when you go loose on things or try to compose on the fly that things go kafluey. Here is a post that shows examples of not just how well the A77II works in sports action, but how scary and "sick" it is... Sony is miles ahead of Nikon and Canon with this new AF feature.

If you have some time, read on:
