Dell shocker!!!

Did you ever check on their website order status "system" to see if the system showed your order cancelled? I cancelled back on 6/16 at 6:32pm. Within 2 days, my order status showed cancelled. I printed the page off to keep. That's not to say the Dell camera won't be on my porch when I get home, but it should be enough proof to get them to take the camera back at no expense to me.

I yelled for about 20 minutes to two different people to get them to cancel my order. I had to call the sales line because the order status option on their call distribution system is utterly useless. When the first person told me she'd have to forward my request to another department for cancellation, and that it would take at least 3 days to process, I screamed for a supervisor. It took 5 minutes to take my order. It shouldn't take 3 days to cancel it. After claiming there weren't any supervisors there, I asked to speak to somebody ANYBODY, even in another department. I got Fernando. After unloading him about my and others' experience with Dell, he ran the cancellation through. I told him that I BETTER NOT see that camera on my porch in three weeks---(oooohhh, scary customer ;) Anyway the order shows up as cancelled on the website.

I do wish you luck. Bottom line you have the V1. I wound up ordering my V1 from eCost and I LOVE IT!!!

Take care,
David
Not really...

You guessed it! I ordered the V1 May 14th from Dell from Melissa at
that wonderful price.

I cancelled vigorously-evened posted here that I did so--on June 7th.

Today the camera came....

I am furious and I do not wish to invest my time on hold getting
authorizations for returns. They have done this to me before, My
credit card company has been alerted.

Any suggestions from the crowd here ...The box will
sit-unopened--unless someone wants to get Dell to redeliver it to
them. I paid $150 more for it at the time at B & H because I got
that great Dell deal that never came through. (Until today, of
course...).

Dell has no shame...and I may not have any left either...

Ideas welcome...Perhaps they should pay me the difference...

Linda

I like your law and am seriously considering filing a complaint about this practice.

Linda
By law, anything that is sent unsolicited to your house is legally
yours, and your camera would fit this description.

Just a curious quirk of the law :-)

The issue right now is did they charge me and what does it take to
get it back to them that does not cost or inconvenience me. It is
just a sore spot with me that I have to jump through their hoops to
make up for their bad system.

There are worse things in life though than having to ship back a
$700 camera because I already have it. It is good every now and
then to remember how really trite most everything really is.

I am going to try not to sweat the small stuff...

(It's getting late, my dog has now cuddled on my lap at the
computer, had my evening rootbeer float, you can see I have
mellowed...)

Root beer with a dash of vanilla ice cream--cures everything!!!

Maybe the folks at Olympus will try some if their new cam doesn't
sell 90,000 units!

Linda
I know it sucks but sit on hold. Its worth it.

I had this happen once before and unfortunately it shows up on one's credit report and is far more trouble at that time.

Sad, but true...Better to deal with it and then fight after the fact.

Linda
There is no way you're going to pay a restocking fee under
the circumstances. Write to your credit card company and
explain. You will get every penny back plus interest.
I would be tempted to send it back without an RMA #.
If they send it back to you, sit on it and let them find it.
Why should you be inconvenienced by their stupidity?

Thanks Greg--I got an RMA and I think you have made a great point here!

Pay shipping back your self so YOU can track. Dell will claim they
never received the package.

That is exactly how I got my 717 last year...!

Linda
Exactly what Dell did to me last year with the 717.
This was after Dell repeatedly called me that it would not be
shipped on time and that I should cancel my order. So I did. And
got it verified as cancelled. Three weeks later they shipped it
anyway.
Glad I thought to refuse the order.

If you did, then I would think this camera is yours to keep for
free. If a company sends you something you did not order, thats is
there problem and I believe, I may be wrong, by law you can keep
the product.
I believe that only applies to things you get via US Mail. So anything coming by UPS won't count.

Thanks to all of you.

I got a cancellation number from customer service when I cancelled.

Dell will send a prepaid slip-but I may follow Greg's advice and protect myself by shipping and having my own receipt.

I don't believe I legally had a right to keep it--though that would have felt good to a degree.

And, I think I will really e-mail M. Dell and also write a complaint to authorities about what is a bad system at best and a potentially
illegal business practice at worst.

The web is a wonderful 'leveler' for the consumer.

Lately reading the threads on the new Oly--it makes me wonder if the marketing gurus don't read here for information???

Everyone's comments were appreciated.

Ha. You may end up trying to tell that to the judge if you try applying that "law" to every expensive little item that mistakenly fall into your hands.
If you did, then I would think this camera is yours to keep for
