Hey all,

I have a Sony Cybershot DCS-P5 and it's underwater housing made by sony. I forget the name of the marine pak. I used this setup on my honeymoon trip last year and was both excited and disapointed at the same time.

I was excited because I was able to take nice underwater shots. I was disapointed because I could not get any of the moisture out of the case! After about 15 minutes or so, the camera would heat up and cause the marine housing to fog up and I lost some good pictures.

Now, my question is...is there a good way to get rid of moisture when you are at the beach? Any recommendation on what to put inside the case? I'm asking a year later, because I am going on a trip to the caribean where we'll go snorkeling, and I'd like to get all the pictures I can.

Thanks in advanced!

Is it possible to keep silica gels in there? I really have no idea if it would work.. just an idea. heh

I've read online somewhere of somebody using the silica gel packs to absorb moisture in a camera housing - you can buy them at some photographic stores. That's what they were designed to do - absorb moisture and prevent fogging...

OT: Having the camera fog up after a while sound strange - it should actually prevent fogging when it heats up, if I can still remember correctly from science class :-) It's probably due to the hot, humid air inside being cooled by the water that is causing the fogging?

I have used this with my PC100 mini DV camera in tropical climate and the silica gel pacs seemed to do the trick.

In just a few short weeks though I should have my DSC U-60 as a nice second camera to go with my F717, hopefully should not have to worry about it fogging

u know how divers use their saliva or some anti-fog solution u can get at dive shops on their masks? Juz wondering if that might work :)

I'd probably use both, an anti fogging agent and the silica gel packs. You don't want to lose ANY pictures, imo. But secondarily even if the anti fogging agent were to work all by itself the moisture condensing inside your case probably isn't a good idea for your camera...

I ordered some of these when I ordered my EWA marine housing from B&H. I've used my underwater housing at the pool and the lake, and never had a problem with moisture in the housing, they're like beefed up silica packets

They come in a smaller size too, but they're out of stock right now.
