Some Chinese photographer tried Sigma 150-600 Sports during Photokina show. He used this lens on Canon 5D3. All pics are straight out of camera, no post processing. His conclusion is at 150mm, the pic is very sharp across the frame; at 600mm, the center is still very sharp, almost the same as 150mm, and the edge a little bit soft. Overall, he was very impressed with the result.

thanks for posting. very interesting. looks like a very promising lens. hope final tests will bring up good news... and hope i'll be able to hand hold that lens...

You are welcome. 600mm wide open looks good to me. Plenty reviews of the final production model will be available in two weeks. I keep my finger crossed to see how good it is.

Thanks for posting! IQ looks very good to me. On the second full-size sample (sitting man), it looks like it has also some decent sharpness towards the corners, even at 6.3/600mm.

The man with the backpack looks superb to me. Very fine level of details in his hair and on skin.

I just wonder what were the in-camera sharpening settings for those jpegs. For sure RAW would deliver even better outcome.

Looks like a really promising lens.

It was not described in the review. I guess it's the default setting in 5D3.

NP. The details look fine to me too. But there is some residual lateral CA in high contrast area.

I forgot to mention that the writer said both optical and mechanical performance of this lens surpassed his expectation. It's a surprise for him.

Nice! I'm going to wait and see some side by side tests and check my finances. : D

你好。摄影师测试那个适马镜头是你的朋友,吗?

what was the setting on the 5d3? Was it at neutral setting?

谢谢

Very nice photos. Would be interested to see the quality on a DX camera. Would also like to see it compared to the C version.

No, I don't know him at all. The settings were not described in his review as I said in prior post. I guess it's in natural mode. Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense.

Great, sharp picture! No loss of detail in the texture of his briefcase! This lens looks like a winner to me.

Even the plastic seam on the bench extreme right corner, or the stitching in his sleeve.

This really looks as sharp as some much pricier lenses and no discernible CA. Very exciting stuff, especially if they're saying the Contemporary is very nearly the same. Right now this makes $2k look like a screaming bargain.

I checked the EXIF and can't find if the picture style was neutral, standard or auto. In-camera sharpening will affect the file output.

The files are great!

Thanks for the link. Those look a bit less good, but not beacause of the lens... photographing a 600mm focal length hand-held with 1/30 to 1/100s could hardly give better results!

Sorry for typo. I mean I guess the camera's setting is default, rather than nature. Just as you said, there is no way to know the exact setting in that camera.
