From what I gather not much different than what the leaks predicted, some new settings and slimmed down menu and a different battery? I will buy the Hero 4 (not way out owning all the mounts and other stuff I do :-D), but I won't rush to it.

i wonder if the 120fps @ 1080p is actually stored as a 120fps file and not a slow-down 30fps file. my w850 can do 120fps @1080p but is stored as a 60fps file then slowed to 30fps by the camera. a 120fps file is never created per se.

i already have the hero 3 black plus so i won't be upgrading any time soon.

That should be the case. High frame rates on the Hero 3 were recorded in realtime too.

What the GoPro "Manual" Controls Really Are (Based on the Hero 4 Black Manual):
  1. "WB": Presets of temperature only (three). No real manual white balance based on, say, a grey card. The Panasonic A500 has more presets and a true manual WB (WB set).
  2. "Exposure": EV adjustment only; no fixing exposure; no shutter or aperture controls (except night time-lapse shutter speeds). The Panasonic A500 has no EV control, but does have a manual backlight option.
  3. "ISO": Can set ISO limits only (4 selections); you cannot choose an ISO. This is not possible on the A500.
  4. "Sharpness": There are three settings.
Note: there is no manual audio control.

You can try to de-fish the image , both Lightroom and Premier now come with different profiles for the Go-pro. In my case I'll provably try swapping the lens, which is easier to do after the Hero Plus came out. The GoPro is still the lighter weighted camera for Aerial photography.

Thanks for the tip.

On a related note, since it takes Micro SD cards, can anyone recommend some good cards for 4K video? I read somewhere a ways back Toshiba was working on something, but if anyone has something more specific I'd love to hear it.

From GoPro:

HERO4 Black & Silver
  • A Class 10 MicroSD card up to 64 GB is required.
Not all Class 10 microSD cards have the same data write speeds. Due to the higher bit rate capabilities and to support new features of HERO4 camera, we have provided a list of recommended cards that provide the best experience
  • SanDisk Extreme 32GB microSDHC (SDSDQXL-032G)
  • SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC (SDSDQXL-064G)
  • Lexar 32GB SDHC 633x (LSDMI32GBBNL633R)
  • Lexar 64GB SDXC 633x (LSDMI64GBBNL633R)

Protune color, auto WB.

The GoPro has a 4:3 sensor, so the 16:9 4K video frame is cropped from the sensor. In Superview, the video frame is constructed from the entire sensor, using the extra height and then anamorphically squeezing out the edges. The distortion (at the edges) is surprisingly minimal,

This video shoots each scene consecutively (in different order) in 4K wide and 4K Superview mode from the exact same spot.

This feature set reminds me of my old power shot (A590 4x optical zoom 7.1 Mega Pixel - it was about 10 years ago $350). The only thing outstanding over it is the 120 fps!!! However my old powershot shoots RAW ... CHDK hack enabled. I loved my old powershot, it worked like lucky charms. So surprised that 10 years has passed and all one gets is 120 fps and no RAW. JM2C

This sounds like stitching in-camera. How long does it take to get the shot & sew?

This is for video. There is no stitching - the frames are anamorphically stretched in real time. There is no more lag in Superview than in Wide between taking clips (not shots).
