Hi everyone.

Yesterday I was setting up for taking some BMX photos, when testing the lighting I took a couple of pictures to see how it looked, after 2 or 3 the screen just went black. Now the buttons on the left of the screen don't work, the video record button doesn't work, INFO and exposure comp buttons don't work either. I can only take one picture before having to turn the camera off and on again and it doesn't show the pictures after shooting it like it normally does... And it shoot as soon as it catches focus, even though I am only half pressing. Same thing is happening with the battery grip on apart from it only reacts to the grip some of the time.

Any idea what could be wrong? I was supposed to be using it for a shoot tomorrow and now I don't have a camera...

Start by removing the grip from the equation. Keep it off and test using the camera only. Check to see if it's a bad battery - do you have a spare? If not, maybe go to a big box store and see if you can borrow one while at the counter. It's a quick way to check. The other is to try another card as well.

As a last resort, reset the camera. Unlike many other DSLRs, the D3100 doesn't feature the "two-button (Green) reset" function. You'll need to select the Reset option in the Shooting Menu.

Hi.

I have tried with and without the battery grip, with 3 different batteries and 4 different SD cards.

And since the buttons on the left of the screen aren't working, I can't access the menu to reset it...

Thanks anyway though!

Wow - time for a trip to the authorized repair center. Let us know how you make out!

Looks like we are just giving up on it and upgrading to a D7100.
