s400 Cases...

Whatever your pocket is happy with. ;) LOL
This case was in a large bin in the store that held a number of
small camera cases - I hadn't been intending to get this particular
case but it just appeared to be such a great fit. I was looking for
a case I could easily fit inside my pants pocket and haven't been
disappointed.

Again, with all respect to those recommending the PSC-50, this is a
great alternative if you want a pocketable, zipper-pouch-style case.

I never expected so many responses nor realized there were so many
potential cases. I'll be looking at all of them and picking one to
carry and protect my little jewel.

Thanks again for all the great posts,

It looks like a nice case. But I think with the Pentax on the front, my little s400 would feel like it was adopted. ;) LOL
Right, that is the PTX-L50 case that I was referring to further up
this thread. I did get it at Ritz Camera, which I think is also
associated with Wolf Camera.

How deep in your pants pocket do you keep it.;)

.... and judging by the number of posts you have made recommending the the PSC-50, sounds like this one does it for you !

Out of curiosity, do you "throw it in your shirt or pants pocket", or wear on your belt ? I tried wearing a case containing my Sony DSC-P1 on my belt, but many times was not wearing it when encountering those unexpected, spontaneous moments you'd like to capture... not a problem now w/ the S400.

That's one reason why, as mentioned in one of my posts above, I mercilessly amputated the outer pocket.... not to mention also for purposes of slenderizing the case.

Well, my wife shops as though I had very deep pockets, but that's another story ;} .... fits as well as my PDA (not too deeply ensconced) in my other pocket.

Gene, is there any lining in the Canon case or is it just the leather inside?
I have the Canon leather case designed for the Powershot s400 and
the leather is slightly thicker than the one they had for the APS
Elph. I really like it and it is cheap. It has a belt loop and
small enough that you can throw it in your shirt or pants pocket,
or your purse, or a small accessory case. It really protects the
camera. You can buy one on Amazon.
Thanks,

I have the 0.2 liter size and it fits perfectly!!! I mean perfectly.

This bag is very well made and should offer great protection. The downside is that is a bit thicker than most. It has one pocket in the front that you can fit a CF card but it's a tight fit. There is also a battery loop thing that holds the S400 battery perfectly. It will hold both a battery and card at the same time but it so tight it puts a lot of pressure on the CF card. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for extra protection.
Bought it from ebags ( ww.ebags.com ).

I just put an order in for one of the small Crumpler Digits for my
daughter's S400.

It should arrive tomorrow, I'll let you know what I think if you're
interested.

...I don't think they have anything that fits the bill for the S400 nearly as well as the Tamrac 5688 does. I have eight Lowepro bags and two Tamrac bags -- a black 5688 for my S400 and a blue one for its battery charger and a spare battery. In the 5688, the camera still fits nicely in a pants pocket.

Whoops, just remembered I now have three Tamracs. I also bought a 5696 because it's a good fit for my S400's waterproof housing.

The Tamracs are well made and are much more presentable once you remove the ugly "digital" label from the front. It's stitched on and comes off easily.

I've seen mention of the Tamarac 5690 and was wondering what other
cases are being used for the s400? Personally, I would like the
smallest available to be worn on a belt. I'm not concerned with
carrying any accessories as those can be put in my pocket (extra
battery/cf cards).

If you want the "best" go with a Lowepro. Check-out one of their
smaller bags in the Digital Resolution Series:
http://www.lowepro.com/pages/bySeries/dres.htm
M-Rock also makes a few really nice smaller bags: http://www.m-rock.com
I have used a few Tamracs over the years and find both Lowepro and
M-rock to be better designed and built.

I'm using the leather case designed for the normal APS Elph cameras
from Canon. The s400 was designed on the APS Elph 1 & 2 body and
fits tight and snug. The thick leather protects against external
impact damage. The belt loop is double-stitched and tight enough
that the case doesn't swivel or move on the belt.
A word of warning. When I purchased my S110, it came with a Canon leather case made specifically for Digital Elph cameras; you can see a picture of it by logging into the Henry's Camera website, http://www.henrys.com , and searching on "576CAN016". Although the case itself is very nice (made of soft leather and literally fitting the camera "like a glove"), the belt loop is not quite up to snuff. It appears to be made of a stiff plastic material with a thin leather cover and is wearing though from both edges after less than two years of relatively-infrequent usage.

I really like the case but I'm starting to worry that the belt strap might give way when I least expect it. :-(

It is nicely lined inside. I was surprised at how well canon had made this pouch. Very well made and strong and the neat thing is it says Canon Power Shot on a little silver plate. That way my s400 knows where to go.;) I keep it in the pouch 24/7 except when I shoot or download pictures.

Nill-

That's a great idea for keeping the charger and battery! I was thinking of what to do with mine. Right now, I carry the spare battery in a pocket, and the charger stays at home. Your idea is a great one though. Now I have to get myself another 5688! By the way, I agree with you about the label. I removed mine immediately.

Well, I too love my little 400. After purchasing I went out and bought a few different cases to see which I liked the best. The one I use the most is this expensive ($50) Tumi cell phone case. It's really great for my use. Great construction, metal belt clip, magnetic snap.

You could buy five of the Tamracs for that, each one of which would afford better protection to the camera.

Norman, the 5688 will hold an extra battery just fine in its little front pouch. I bought a second 5688 to hold the battery charger (a blue one so I can easily tell them apart) and keep the spare battery in the front pouch of that one.

I got the Tamrac 5688 and I love it so far. It doesn't hold an
extra battery, so that would have to be my only gripe.

Todd the Tamrac 5688 fills this bill nicely in a nylon case. I use one and carry the camera in my pants pocket.

For a wetsuit material (neoprene) case check out the Optech line. They have something that fits very well also; sorry I don't know the model number.

Does anyone know of a very tightly fitting case that holds only the
S400 camera?

I would like something to put into my pocket and protect it. Small
as possible is key. Maybe something made out of that wetsuit
material?

Thanks!

I had pretty much narrowed it down to these 2. They seem like the smallest, but I was really hoping for something without a flap (Tarmac) or a locking clip (Optech). I can't believe that there isn't something that you can just slip the camera into (kind of like a laptop sleeve). I don't need it to be all sealed up, I just don’t want it to get all scratched up in my pocket. I'll probably go with the Tarmac 5688 for now, and keep looking for the ideal S400 sleeve.

Thanks for all the great responses!

I think without a flap of some sort I'd worry about it slipping out and hitting the floor when I pulled it out of my pocket. I think you'll like the 5688 (especially after you rip off the ugly "Digital!" label).
