at all zoom rates greater then 65x I recommend yu brace yourself on an object or yull never get a clear shot use a tripod with remote release

Cowboy,
I could have used some of that special zoom up here in Idaho today. I was photographing very distant deer with both SX50 at 2400mm and FZ1000 at 800mm.
Results were as expected for that range, marginal with several keepers though.
My observations were, FZ1000, easy to find the deer in sun or shade, pretty good IQ but not enough zoom. GREAT EVF makes the camera fun to use.
SX50, good results when deer were in the sun. Very difficult to find the deer in the shade, due to the very poor EVF.
So, if the IQ of the SX60 is as good as the SX50 and the EVF is dramatically improved, I'll be eager to get my hands on one.
Cowboy, can you comment on the EVF? Do you have another camera to compare it to?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
Jack

Cowboy,

From the EXIF, the top image is at 65x, not 21mm.

Thanks for the early pics.

Cowboy,

Thanks for the real look at 21mm with the SX60, as well as at the long end. Are these results with the IS only, or are they on a tripod? or braced against something?

Ed

handheld evf with some and display with others I did brace against the doorframe all shot at iso100

no lens hood or filter adapter came with the camera sorry sir

Since one can read the calibration numbers on the dish in that light, that says a lot about your excellent handholding skills (even braced) as well as about the IS.

In the 21mm image, it looks like the 16 MP sensor (actually looks like 15.9 MP being used) is doing a decent job of picking up details (the first 3 numbers of your neighbor's license plate are 434) as well.

This is looking like an intriguing camera and I really appreciate you're putting up example images so quickly.

thank you sir its an excellent zoom cam for my cattle drive trips to Montana every summer ive also had the sx35 40 50 Nikon p600 but this blows em away by far

im goin out shooting when I come back ill have some more pics for y'all

Hello, I am considering to buy a long zoom camera that I can use on a golf course to take pictures of birds and animals. Do you recommend the SX60 over Panasonic FZ1000? I would like bigger sensor but 400mm will not be enough. I appreciate your opinion. Any other brand camera you can recommend for better IQ?

no lens hood or filter adapter came with the camera sorry sir
Thank you for your prompt answer! I believed you already had the SX50 camera with lens hood and filter adapters (also separately purchased) and you could try them on SX60.

No problem, thanks again,

Augustin

So far the SX60 posted do not look that impressive!! Would like to see some pics perhaps taken on a tripod to get ride of camera shake issues and at lower ISO's. Pictures taken at enhanced digital zoom versus optical zoom are never going to compare as far as IQ.

I have switched to the Nikon P600 from the SX50 and have been very pleased with the Nikon, so with the announcement of the SX60 I was tempted to try the SX60, but after seeing the SX60 pictures so far, I will wait.

Mcbrig,

Cowboy posted a second slightly better set here further down in the thread. It's early with people just first getting their hands on the camera. I remember my first efforts with the SX50 was certainly not impressive, to say the least. From what I see so far though, with a little practice, the SX60 has possibilities.

Ed,

I agree it is still early to tell how well the SX60 will perform.

I have always been a Canon guy but switched to the Nikon P600 and have been very pleased with the results (several posts on the Nikon Coolpix Forum).

I decided to take out the SX50 this morning and give it a another try, still happy with the results, but I my opinion not as good as the P600. Will post pictures tonight.

They are some features I do like better on the SX60 and if the IQ is as good as the P600 I will probably switch back, but so far I don't see anything that stunning from the SX60.

I know you are a big follower of Evan, absolutely a great photographer, we have worked together for years and share a great love for photography.

Mcbrig:

I am always watching developments in superzoom cameras and have a question or two for you, I've been using a Sony HX100V for a few years, but would switch to anything that offered comprehensive advantages.,

How do you find that the Nikon P600 autofocus compares to the SX50 when at the long end of the focal range. I've read some comments that suggest it is not as fast. What is your experience?

I take it you prefer the the P600 IQ to the SX50? If so that is impressive, since the SX50 I have thought to be very good.

One of the things that is important to me is burst shooting speed and control. It is the reason why I returned the SX50 a few years ago. The SX50 doesn't update the VF/LCD during high speed burst (13fps) while the Sony's do give you screen refresh and some ability to track a moving object during the burst. Questions: how is the P600 in this regard? Have you seen any posts about the SX60 concerning this?

Thanks for any help.
