Picked up a new 717 at sears last week with 142XXXX serial, made in may 2003. There is a "B" at the end of the serial 142XXXX-B. Anyone else know what this is for? new revison? surley not "B" stock (refurb)

Odd. I bought mine from Sears 2 weeks ago and I have a 141xxxx but no B. I wonder if you got a new firmware release.

I just received my 717 from Dell ($577.78 including free shipping) last week after a wonderful post by xichlo. My camera date is May, 2003, and the serial number is: 143xxxx, with no B at the end. Another interesting thing about the later 717's is the Memory Stick Pro graphic on the battery/memory stick door.

My 717 is from Sears 142xxxx-D with new usb/pro memory sticker on the barrel. Do not know what the -B or -D means but my camera is perfect including a perfectly center HAF (laser focus) pattern which I have not seen often on any other 717 I have handled. May2003 production.

same here, perfect centered HAF, not off to right.

Sorry. On Sony I have no idea how to check the frimware.
Anyone else know?

Weird that nobody else has a B. I wonder if Sony has a second manufacturing plant.

I would call Sony and ask. Make sure it isn't a repackaged returned unit.

I don't think it means anything like that, mine starts with 175xxxx and no letters.

138xxxx with no letter. My Hologram is centered. Don't know the manufacturing date. Bought in late March from State Street Direct, US$710 plus about $10 shipping.
No problems so far.

If you go to Sears's website, it list the F717 as recondition for
the same price as a new unit!

Are they legally allow to do this since they are a public company?
Perhaps this explains the -B at the end of the serial number.

When I bought this camera last week, nobody told me it was a refurb - nowhere on the box, camera or in the box does it state its a refurb. With a manufacture date of may 2003, how can this already be a refurb or is that when it was refurbished?
