I've seen mention of the Tamarac 5690 and was wondering what other cases are being used for the s400? Personally, I would like the smallest available to be worn on a belt. I'm not concerned with carrying any accessories as those can be put in my pocket (extra battery/cf cards).

I have the Tamrac 5688. S400 fits nicely. Belt strap uses velcro and a snap so you do not have to undo your belt.

If you want the "best" go with a Lowepro. Check-out one of their smaller bags in the Digital Resolution Series: http://www.lowepro.com/pages/bySeries/dres.htm
M-Rock also makes a few really nice smaller bags: http://www.m-rock.com

I have used a few Tamracs over the years and find both Lowepro and M-rock to be better designed and built.

I'm using the leather case designed for the normal APS Elph cameras from Canon. The s400 was designed on the APS Elph 1 & 2 body and fits tight and snug. The thick leather protects against external impact damage. The belt loop is double-stitched and tight enough that the case doesn't swivel or move on the belt.

Does anyone know of a very tightly fitting case that holds only the S400 camera?

I would like something to put into my pocket and protect it. Small as possible is key. Maybe something made out of that wetsuit material?

Thanks!

Hmmmmm, maybe something like this:

I'll bet you could remove the armband. I'd check out case logic's Gameboy cases as well. I used to carry my smallest MP3 player in one of my son's old gameboy neprene case....

Just a thought.

I use a LowePro Z5.. Has some padding and a pouch for extra battery or CF. I am happy with it.. only about 9 or 10 bucks.

I have found that the Pentax PTX-L50 leather case, intended for their Optio line, adapts quite well to the S400. It fits quite well into my pants pocket after I removed the case's outer pocket. See the following link:

http://www.pentax.com/products/accessories/accessories.cfm?accessoryType=dig#

It is shown about half way down this page

I got the Tamrac 5688 and I love it so far. It doesn't hold an extra battery, so that would have to be my only gripe.
Bought it from ebags ( ww.ebags.com ).

I just put an order in for one of the small Crumpler Digits for my
daughter's S400.

It should arrive tomorrow, I'll let you know what I think if you're
interested.

I, too, am looking for a minimal case to protect the s400 in my pocket.

Is the Pentax L50 case (with the outer pocket removed) smaller than the Canon psc-50 case?

Although the S400 fits slightly loosely within the PTX-L50 case, this case is a zipper pouch with no flap.

The Canon PSC-50 uses a flap-style case; while possibly a tighter fit for the S400, the flap may add a bit more depth. I have not personally seen this case - maybe someone who has can comment on the effect of the flap on the case's pocketability.

The Tamrac 5690 you mentioned first is still your best option. Fits the camera like a glove and has room for an extra compact flash and a battery. It will fit on your belt or around your neck. I feel that the Tamrac Digital series is much better than the Lowe Pro(I have one for my G3) they offer very little padding or protection and don't fit very well. I love the 5690 for my S400 and its reasonably priced.

The Canon Canon PSC-50 is the best case I have found to protect the camera in my pocket. It's very well made and can be found for $15. It even has a slot on the top of the case for the strap to hang out.

I have a LowePro leather case that I like as a belt pouch. It looks good and it's very well made.

You can store an extra battery in the bottom of the case, but it's a tight fit. It's a bit too big for pocket use, however.

http://www.lowepro.com/pages/series/milan/milanmic.htm

It's been discontinued, but you still may be able to find a few around somewhere...

Here is a leather case that fits the S400 like a glove, and you can even slip an extra battery into the bottom if you lay it flat. It is a cell phone case sold at Lowes Home Improvement Center, and says "GE/Sanyo on the bottom of the package. It also says "small leather case", and the model # is 47439. It has a detachable belt clip, and is only $9.99.

I have the Canon leather case designed for the Powershot s400 and the leather is slightly thicker than the one they had for the APS Elph. I really like it and it is cheap. It has a belt loop and small enough that you can throw it in your shirt or pants pocket, or your purse, or a small accessory case. It really protects the camera. You can buy one on Amazon.

I agree with Marco Nero. If you don't need to carry any accessories, I think Elph leather case fits and looks best.
