*** This Week Through YOUR m4/3 2014.06.09 ***

Great characterful faces, nice and sharp.

Not too keen on frames, although I used one myself this week (!) and the second doesn't do much for me but 1 and 3 are just excellent. I personally like the attack in the processing. Really well done.

Mobile again, it was time for another venture into the night - which unfortunately was typical, in that it was a last minute arrangement, not timely for a meet-up shout out. Fortunately Christof and daughter Sarah were flexible while here from Germany for two weeks.

Taste of Colorado is an annual street/park fair over Labor Day weekend with booths selling food, crafts, and other stuff. A good opportunity for people shots.

This kid didn't seem too pleased when he noticed I was taking this photo.

In this picture he's just starting to flip me off

After he was fully flipping me off, I laughed, approached him, handed him a slip of paper with a printed URL where he could find and download photos in a day or two, and I offered to take some shots of him and his friends. His mood brightened and they posed for me, but he still kept the "bird" out, which I found humorous:

Later I saw a couple buy a lucha libre mask for their young son, and I asked if I could take their photo, also handing them the slip of paper with URL to download the photos in a day or two. They readily posed for me:

I like photographing people, and it's fun to be able to share the images with some of them. It might also be a way to placate someone who gets irritated about being photographed. But I still mainly go stealth mode:

All of these are well done, but I agree with wormsmeat that 1 and 3 really stand out.

I could do with a little more depth of field in the first shot; it seems to me it responds well to a glance but is lss good on further examination.
I like that one; it has, as Wormsmeat said in his post, that 60's Sci Fi thing going :) .

But the second one -- the grasshopper side-on on he flower -- I could (and did) look at that for a long time. I could imagine that on the wall providing many happy hours of pointless contemplation! :)
Thank you!
The depth of field comes into question with some of the flower pix too. I have been dissatisfied with my own pix of this genre that lack sufficient depth of field to have the whole flower sharp. I just think it ought to be.
Actually, this is a compositional choice that I did make. I'm experimenting with subject isolation and what is the minimum amount of in-focus area that I can use with a flower and have it still work as a floral composition. Too much DOF and the background can become a distraction; too little and it just looks like an OOF image. I actually did use a bit of focus stacking on a couple of the images here to deepen the in-focus areas, believe it or not.
OMG, the party is now singing along to "Money, money, money" (see my post of a couple of oldies, below).
Aren't they at least going to invite you to join the fun? ;)

Geoff - How is your friendly, neighborhood volcano doing? I just saw an amazing video of an eruption on Facebook. It's a far cry from these peaceful scenes.

Good times last night Bob. Under the GWB and up high in Weehawken are two great locations. I hope you got a good night's sleep after all that driving.

I've just spent a couple of hours rootling through an older back-up disk searching for a specific picture (I found it!) then getting into throwing out some of the duplicate files.

And in the process, I cam across some pix I had forgotten all about. I wonder whether I have posted them before. Possibly; but I don't think so.

Here are two taken with the E-PL3 last year. The pix are pretty much OOC but the second one has been sharpened a little and some contrast added:

Sunset from Vunakabi. The palms with the raggy heads and the fringe underneath are areca palms -- the fringe is the bunch of fruit -- the betel nuts.

I've tried a number of times to convey how steep a food garden can be here -- this is one of my better attempts. This is classic slash and burn agriculture. The bush has been chopped away, mainly with bush knives (machetes) then the crops planted -- not a monoculture, but a multitude of plants. The Lily leaves in the foreground are a yam, a root vegetable, and behind it, you can see a young banana growing. It is most likely to be a cooking banana -- a major staple here. How do you work this garden? Very carefully!

Well, it's 11.05pm here on Saturday night, and the party next door is hotting up. Oddly, their boombox has just moved into an Abba set -- and I am typing to the beat of "Dancing Queen".

Oh, these dancing fingers, mate!!!

Have a great weekend, everyone. Iou rou, as we say here (literally "you go", but used like this it is more like "see ya!" or "'bye" or "so long" or "go well").

Cheers, geoff

I really like that last one.

That fourth one made me laugh. Enjoyed all of them.

With Fall approaching, I thought I would catch changes in the flowers around the yard. This one, surrounded by seed pods was particularly interesting.

While shooting, a bumble bee (I love insect macro shots) volunteered its services...

Sorry for the soft focus. I've had my M.Zuiko 60mm Macro a week and am still learning how best use it with moving subjects.)

There's a local water slide that opens their pools to dogs every fall. Today was the day. Lots of dogs, lots of mayhem, lots of fun. These three were having a some fun.

It is all over Jim. Quiescent in about 24 hours.

There were some terrific photos and videos around from in the darkness (it went off at about 3.30AM) and particularly, in the dawn. I missed that; as I explained in my volcano pix post, I just couldn't get my eyes open after a poorish night's sleep following two weeks of full-on work away and a modest celebration on returning home!

So I turned up pretty late for it all -- about mid-morning.

Damn, damn, damn! LOL.

Cheers, geoff
