I'm fairly new to the Fuji X system - bought a second hand X-E1- but would like a new fast prime. So far i only have the 18-55mm kit lens. I was looking at either the 18mm f/2 or the 35mm f/1.4.

At the moment I was thinking of the 35mm because it is a bit faster. But the 18mm is also looking good because of its focal length but I already have it on the 18-55, I shoot mostly landscapes and cityscapes but also portraits, wildlife & nighttime photography/long exposures. I

I'm not too worried about the price - I'm thinking of buying an X-T1 in a few years, or what ever is the best when I'm ready to update, so I'll be able to use this lens again.

Which of the two lenses do you think is best for me or if you have another suggestion please tell me. Thanks in advance!

Also if you need to know anything else for a better answer just ask!

The 18-55 is 2.8 at 18mm. The 18 is 2.0. As you can see the difference is very small and you would be almost duplicating focal lenght and max aperture if you buy the 18mm.
You should get the 35mm. It is an excellent lens and will complement very well your photo equipment.

Agreed, I have the 18-55 and the 35. The 35 will allow you to take a different sort of shot (with shallow depth of field - nice for portraits etc.). The 18 would offer little difference other than a smaller kit.

Since your zoom started at 18mm f2.8, the only thing the Xf18 would give you is a smaller size and sightly wider aperture. At 18mm the difference in depth of field is minimal.

Go for the XF35, its a great lens.

I currently only have two lenses, the xf 35 and samyang 12. I can recommend either, they are both great. If its between the 35 and the 18, i would get the 35. For landscapes youll be stopping the lens down, so the wider aperture of the 18 over your zoom wont matter much. On the other hand, if you want a fl that your zoom cant cover i would suggest either the fuji xf 14 or the samyang 12.

The 35 - no question ..

The 18mm is a really nice lens and the stop down in aperture very helpful if you are shooting in low-light situations with moving subjects, especially (over the 18-56 here). It is also a nice size- not as small as the 27mm but almost. Having said all of that, for your purposes (which don't seem to specify, for example, nighttime street photography, etc.), the 35mm probably seems the best bet.

Wait for the new 35f1.4 on it ways soon. Or at least you can buy old 35f1.4 cheaper.

There is no new version on the way soon. Please don't spread misleading info.
