Has anyone heard, seen or used a Metabones Speed booster "ULTRA" model?

Adorama has one listed on its website for $449, $50 higher than the "regular" model..

However, that page contains no descriptions or specifications on the item, except that it will accept orders for $449.00.

See ULTRA Model listed at Adorama

Similarly, Metabones' website contains no mention of the "Ultra" model.

Can anyone chime in the differences? I intend to use a Rokkor 58mm f/1.2 with the Metabone Speed Booster and would like to know the differences "ULTRA" model brings before making the purchase

thanks!!!

The official release date is 9/1, which is technically now the case in some parts of the world.

The "Ultra" is a new series of Speed Boosters with improved optical performance. These improvements are: 1) better corner performance (MTF); 2) reduced distortion; 3) reduced vignetting; 4) better performance with lenses having a long exit pupil distance, such as pro-grade f/2.8 zooms and ultra-high speed primes (like your 58/1.2). For your Rokkor 58/1.2 you'll see little or no difference between the original and Ultra models in the central ~70% of the image circle. However, in the outer ~30% of the circle you will see a significant improvement, especially wide open at f/0.9 .

Brian: Thanks for your quick reply.... Yes, Metabone's website just got updated with a new image ..

I'd guess I'd be wise to wait for the ultra model....

cheers,

But the ALPA adapter is the M42 one? Is the flange distance the same? It would be othewise very strange if not to, since it is one of the most common vintage mount around..

Will a Contax to Fuji X version be available?

Thanks,

Marius
Here's what's available http://www.adorama.com/l/Miscellaneous/Metabones~New-Products-at-Adorama

Ah, excellent, thank you. Had only looked at the original page on Metabones' website where it stated,

"Canon EF and Nikon F/G-mounts version are available.

The other mounts version of Speedbooster ULTRA is coming soon..."
i did not find any canon ef adapter to fuji x on thier site

http://www.metabones.com/products/?c=x-mount&p=2&s=0

maybe there will be soon

I emailed Metabones last year about whether they were going to release an EF to FujiX speed booster and got a vague response about the difficulties with producing a speed booster with aperture control for this combination but they implied they were working on one (this was more than 12 months ago). I got the impression that I was talking to someone in marketing/sales and they never outright said that metabones were working on one.

Kipon Baveyes have released an EF to FujiX focal reducer but you are limited to wide open aperture or what ever aperture you "force" the EF lens to stay at (you need a canon body to do this).

Brian, thanks for your information!
Is there any chance of a Sony alpha mount to Fuji-X mount speed booster? I want to use the 135mm STF on the Fuji 😊

I think the optics will support it, but its up to Metabones whether they actually put the optics into an actual adapter. I would contact them to find out.

I did write them about 3 weeks ago.. but they never replied :-(

Should be easy as you say -- they already have the alpha to nex speedbooster so for Fuji it should just be a matter of adjusting the back mount.

Sorry about that - I'll try to find out.

Brian,

for quite a time I have and enjoy SA and SB adapters for Canon EF-lenses to E-mount Nex bodies: full electronic aperture control, EXIF's and even some very rudimentary and painfully slow AF.

Are there any plans (or maybe already in the pipeline) for the same solution allowing to use Canon's EF glass on XF?

best,

Quercy

Hi Brian,

Thanks for being so available! I have the C/Y to FX Speedbooster that I use with a Contax Zeiss 50mm 1.7 and 85mm 2.8 that I am quite pleased with. Will the new Speedbooster show much improvement over the original one with these lenses?

Thanks and regards,

Marius
