X100S owners, will you upgrade?

I am a happy owner of an X100S, but also having M43 gears the X100S autofocus speed frustrated me sometime. When I heard of the X100T and the subsequent leaked improvements* my first reaction is "I need to save up for this", but now I am less decided.

So far, the rumored changes include
-faster autofocus
-tilt screen
-new lens, very likely 23mm but unknown widest aperture
-larger EVF in place of hybrid VF

While I would very much like to have the improved AF (faster, preferably with face/eye detection) the rest of the changes are not important to me. Doing away with OVF, if true, is a negative point.

I have also learn to live with the X100S autofocus, so while it can certainly be improved it doesn't give me angst like when I just got it.

What is your plan, fellow X100S users?
 
I had my X100s for a year now and love it. There are some things I'd like to be changed:

- faster AF speed and better accuracy

- tilt screen with higher resolution (I just bought a X-M1 for less than half the price of the X100s and the LCD is just so much better)

- less lag in the EVF

- better functioning eye sensor on the EVF to better function in sun light

- better sharpness at wide appertures and close range

- EV compensation from -3 to +3

- customizable Q-menu

- better build with weather sealed moniker (for peace of mind if nothing else)

- longer battery life

And I'm sure a couple more...

If and when the new X100whatever will be announced I'll just go trough my wish list. If it checks enough boxes, I'll buy it. If not, I'll wit for the next incarnation ;-)

Losing the optical viewfinder would be a massive negative point for me as in I would not buy one. I had hope for a bigger brighter optical viewfinder, to be honest I would rather lose the AF have a rangefinder and a manual focus lens instead.
 
They're not going to get rid of the OVF.

I don't know how people came to that conclusion.

Probably just another attempt to get more traffic to Fujirumors and sell more of Rico's books in the process.

I think people took the news "it has a better EVF" as, it ONLY has an EVF.

The OVF is one of the key selling points of this camera.

They won't remove it.

Agree that's likely to be the case.

So, improved hybrid VF + improved AF (for argument's sake, let's say on par with XT1) + tilt screen + misc.

Will that tempt you to upgrade?
 
i could see no reason to upgrade to the x100s from the original x100; which i still use but if the new 100t was a quantum leap i would think about it

There is no credible rumor that says the X100T will be EVF-only. It's probably wise to decide on upgrading once the camera is released. Otherwise you might as well say that you will only upgrade if it comes with a pony.

That's exactly what happened because that's what you did.
 
Nope. The only things I miss are face detection and in-camera pixel mapping.

You will be much happier if you avoid rumor sites. All they do is foster speculation and create GAS.
 
Being such that I have invested quite a bit in both conversion lenses, I would only think about upgrading if those could still be used. And if rumours are true that its a brand new lens, it is hard to believe that the conversion lenses could still work without a loss in sharpness etc. But the two things I would love in a new body is face detection (such that my friends could use it) and faster single point AF.

I would be convinced only if it was the same camera with:

- significantly faster lens

- could use the conversion lens

- pop up flash higher than the tcl converter (and tiltable)

- my half case would fit

I honestly think that Fuji could improve the focus speed as the sensor and processor are the same as the XT1 (the X100s hunts too much), put face detection (as even detects faces in playback), etc...
 
Not unless my X100s takes fall, a dive or some other catastrophic failure tales place. Then I will most certainly replace it with whatever is the current model.
 
A pony?

Oh that would be so awesome, Just think of the fun you can have on a pony ;-);-)
 
If the hybrid OVF is lost (to cost cutting no doubt) the X100 will be lost as well. The hybrid OVF in the X100 and X-Pro1 is the intriguing feature that led many of us to the Fuji X cameras in the first place. If that feature is abandoned, the magic will be lost and the new camera will certainly not be an 'upgrade'. It will become just another 'me too' mirrorless camera like a Sony or Oly.

Usually when the new model arrives the old model drops in value. If the OVF is abandoned the current X100 and X100s models will be instantly upgraded to 'classic' status and used prices will no doubt soar.

Fuji has been on a roll with the development of the x system. With the development of better software, AF systems and processors, I hate to think that the apogee of the x-system was realized with the release X100s and X-Pro1. If the OVF is abandoned, the 'best days' of the X-system will be behind us.
