Ive been doing some research on k-3 before making a purchase and

I noticed something strange when I opened a raw files that I downloaded from Imaging Resources

raw file with some sharpening applied #1
raw file with some sharpening applied #1

raw file with some sharpening applied #2
raw file with some sharpening applied #2

jpeg file from camera
jpeg file from camera

as you can see, fine details in the raw image look aliased compared to jpeg. Maybe pentax's own

converting software wont have this problem but I would rather not use it instead of lightroom

Anybody knows if there is anything I can do to fix this? Maybe another version of lightroom?

I have K3, shoot RAW and use LR5. I have never had that problem. I don't remember all the versions I've used with K3, but currently 5.6.

Question; What was the file size that you downloaded?

I downloaded several of them - all around 30 mb

These artifacts seem to randomly occur across the image as some parts

with the exact same detail patterns are completely fine.

Perhaps some of sort of side effect of removing AA filter..

I am beyond 2,000 images on the K3 and have seen nothing of what you say. I use CS6 RAW. 7.0

I have a K-3 and use LR with mostly RAW files. Never had an issue and the raw files look just fine in LR.

I have never used or needed to use the AA simulator and have never had this problem as I stated above. Perhaps you could try updating to LR 5.6 and see if that makes a difference.

Why are you using 5.3? Current version is 5.6 and there is no sign of the problem using that.

Dave's clichés

Has anyone tried downloading the image the OP is referring to. I went to Imaging Resource and found the JPG for the image but could find no way to download the RAW file. If anyone can tell me how to do this I will see if I get the same results in LR that the OP did.

For some reason I didn't associate "thumbnails" with RAW files. Silly me.

The only way I got aliasing as bad as this on my monitor is by viewing at 200%.

When using the pentax software? if yes well I guess then I wont be using lightroom..
With LR 5.6. Perhaps my monitor is not as high res as yours, 24 inch iMac.

One each from the original K3 jpeg (top) and a jpeg produced from LR (bottom). If anything the LR jpeg has a very slight edge in resolution.

These details are just a few pixels wide and aliasing is unavoidable in both. If you magnify these images you will see virtually identical pixel structure in the jpeg files. There are also many factors you need to take into account when comparing jpegs such as applied processing, compression, sharpening, contrast etc whether in-camera or in PP.

My conclusion is I don't see any problem with LR processing of K3 RAW files.

Im sorry, but could you possibly post a unprocessed jpg image ( 'as is' in LR )

that way I can compare my result to yours.

Admittedly, I think your coverted file look fine but I dont know if Ive done something wrong

with in LR (although I only increased sharpness value ) or there is some varying automatic

adjustments being made by LR, because I just cant seem to get rid of those jaggies without

applying unnatural amount of 'radius.'
