Do you find it hard to shoot with SLRs now?

On previous holidays when handed a DSLR to take someone's "I was here" shot, they feel godawful huge and horrible to use after my E-PL5. No way I'd ever go back there now.

Luckily smartphones have taken over and most people now use those for selfies so I won't be inflicted with having to shoot with someones else's DSLR any more, I hope.

Broke out the E30 again before selling it to the BiL; it's still a fun, ergonomic and intuitive camera, and IQ is very competitive in good light. But I did surprise myself when I grabbed the focus ring and it didn't zoom in.... ;)

I'm done with focus recompose or only having the option to thumb my way to the right focus point on my D7000. And yes... I put the Nikon to my eye and people just start acting like they are in front of a camera, whereas with my EM-10 at the hip, people rarely get into "character" and stay themselves.

For the things that a DSLR is better than my m43's camera, I personally don't need them as much as I need the features on offer with my m43's camera.

And with touch tilt screen shooting many do not even realise what is happening, to them it looks like I'm chimping or adjusting something.

If a heavy duty sports or paparazzi shooter then DSLR is the best weapon, for photography in general the mirrorless makes more sense, be it full frame, M4/3, 1" or whatever.

the canon dslr i have would be considered top of the line for apsc. it's comfortable if big, has plenty of controls and works great.

but having shot with the em5/em1 and trying to shoot with the dslr now, there is a distinct advantage the omd's have in handling and usability. they are just dead easy to shoot. knobs are acccessible and actually make sense and are automatically intuitive, particularly as a manual shooter.

the dslr works fine in A/S but in M, those omd's really are tops.

the live view is superb and the touchscreen, and articulating nature of it makes it so simple to get a shot. the em5 loses to the canon for AF accuracy and speed but that em1 kills it completely even in low light where i was getting better hit rates with the em1. faster too.

i would say on A/S they are on par minus the live view/screen. once on M, it's a no brainer. the omd's feel and operate more like a classic camera. simple, direct, effective, no nonsense.
