Very nice

After having very flat images I have turned up the settings in camera to all max .Maybe saturation is a bit high .

They look over-saturated to me too. Problem is that it looses some detail in the colours that way and I think that ironically makes it "flatter" or more two-dimensional. It loses some texture.

If you feel the camera doesn't do the motive justice, consider using the tone curve tool to get a larger contrast or use one of the filters.

I like the motive. I think of it a bit like a portrait of the boat. For huge things like that, it can be hard to have the space to work around and the options on how to frame it are often limited. That said, I'd have tried to shoot it from a bit lower perspective, to get it a bit more "eye-level". If you want to show that we're looking down on it on the ramp, it'd help with something in the foreground that's ground level.

Just some quick thoughts. Hope it makes sense to you.

most bigger sensor cameras actually produce very neutral images. to many ppl they think it's dull and they boost the colour. i recommend not doing that as it looks very unnatural. your shot is actually quite nice but for oversaturation.

instead, try setting it with a higher contrast rather than vivid or what have you.

or you can very quickly do that in post which allows you more flexibility to change to suit taste rather than let the cam do it.

boosting contrast and playing with the levels slider in photoshop is the best way to instantly jazz up your photos without making it look unnaturally boosted. kick up the highlights by a tad bit, pull up the blacks a bit. the midtones should automatically work itself to a nice point. voila. not only does the extra contrast increase the visual depth of your colours, but it also makes you shot look sharper without additional sharpening.

again, dont do overboard. use the histogram to your advantage. as long as there is presence of black and light in the histogram, your picture should really pop. it takes exactly 5 seconds to do.

I like the image and I like its colours, as they are. Photography is subjective, isn't it?

Cheers

Given the flat lighting, I might be tempted to zap up the contrast a little, though. That might also demand that you lower the saturation just a touch too.

I'm always intrigued by these boats. They look like something prehistoric! :)

Cheers, geoff
