Nikon V1 - Who is keeping?

I have had my V1 since it came out - size, AF speed and the 2.7 crop keep me holding on to the system.

i have the 6.7 zoom, 10-30 and 30-110 lenses. I know the 70-300 would still be a very small kit.

Have most of you traded up to the V3, if so why?

If wish I just used it more, I just tend to grab my X-T1 more often...

Thanks

Got two v1, one with 6.7-13 and the other with the 10-100. It focuses fast enough and FPS is already so good that I feel no need in that area. I still hate the ergo and controls but now familiar enough and can make changes quickly enough so no way is nikon is going to get me to overpay for more resolution i don't need. Would love more res with real low light but looks like the v2 and v3 don't offer much in the low light performance

If the v3 ever goes for 500 I will buy but for now that is it, not enough value at the current price

I don't see any real life image quality improvement with the V3, so until Nikon introduces an N1 camera with more dynamic range, I don't see any reason to upgrade from the V1.

I still have the V1, I keep my 10-100 lens on it. Purchased the V3 and love the speed, use it with all other N1 lenses. I also have the XT-1 and enjoy it very much also. My favorite though is the RX1, great camera. WC

I've the V1 and V3. Sold the V2 to offset the price of the V3, kept the V1 because it's better to keep it as a backup camera than sell it (for a small sum).

I have a V1 and all three primes. That's what I wanted from the Nikon 1 system - a small camera with EVF, three small primes and GPS.

For me there is no reason to upgrade to a V2 or V3. I like the V1 and the way it handles. There isn't enough difference in image quality between the V1 and the newer V cameras and I don't need more pixels. After almost three years of using my V1 I know what the camera can do, what to expect and how to post process the files to get the look I want.

I will buy a V4 if it has noticeable better image quality and if I can use the EVF and GPS at the same time (a base ISO of 100 or 200 would be something I want, but it's not that important) - or if my V1 stops working (in that case I would probably buy the V3 with EVF and without grip or whatever V-type camera is available at that time).

Didn't you try the trick D300andV1shootergave in the http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/54232867 thread ?

I had the INVERSE problem of yours: the Auto Review Image wasn't working on my V1 and I wanted it to work ! I hit the DISPLAY buton WHILE looking into the EVF of my V1, and..... ta-dahhh.... the ARI was back again !
Actually the "trick" is already described in the V1 manual at p5. Unfortunately pressing the Display button with the EVF activated in Shooting Mode only switches the EVF information around the edge between a basic info and full info. Using the monitor in Shooting mode and pressing the Display button switches between 3 modes: simplified display, detailed display and monitor off (EVF not affected).

Switching the monitor OFF with the Display button, doesn't prevent getting the forced image review in the EVF, when a picture is taken.

Same here. The problem with my EVF is that it now stays always on as soon as I use it. Impossible to turn it off. As long as I don't approach my eye from the EVF, the LCD works, and the EVF is "off". As soon as I use the EVF, the LCD switches off, and the EVF stays always "on". It doesn't go back to "off" mode, until I switch the camera off.

I can live with that...

Only suggestion I have is to thoroughly clean the little eye sensor.

For me, having the option of keeping the display, always ON, even when wearing a black shirt/black jacket, at night, or when accidentally shadowing the sensor, say when doing macro work, would be a blessing as well!

WC,

That's like a Xmas wish list for me (could live with the RX1R as well).

I do have the 10-100 PD (big and heavy), but the rest is, as yet, figments of my imagination!

Yes, primarily because the V1's ergonomics are rubbish. It's a heavy soap bar with self operating controls = fail. Never liked much about it except the images & size. V3 is light years ahead in ergonomics & I can live with the oddities (battery w/ grip). It's also smaller & has better images.

In truth I often grab my AW-1 as it's nice to have a camera with no weather/environment worries. From the backyard to the pool it does well & it's images are very good.

My V1 is all boxed up ready to go, all I got to do is stop being lazy & post the for sale ad :D

I understand and agree on all that, Ole, but how come that IN MY CASE, the Auto Review was ON when I bought it, then, (I don't remember how I did it) it was OFF for a long time, and when I followed "D300sandV1shooter" advice, it went back to ON ?

...and, before someone say that I mixed-up PHOTO and VIDEO, I am CERTAIN that I allways stay in PHOTO, as the MODE "weel" is almost blocked !

...and now I can't go back to Auto Review OFF anymore ! That doesn't bother me, but I just would like to switch whenever I want (like everyone else), just to show who's the boss to my V1 !

Ohhhh and BTW, the little "eye sensor" is clean ! I learned the trick a long time ago, when the viewed imsge wouldn't anymore switch from "back display" to EVF when I looked thru the latter !

;-)

Yes, until either I feel I need something better or Nikon releases something that moves me to do it. For what I use it, it's a good camera.

Cheers!

Nice trade-in list. I sold my D90 to help pay for a Sony A6000. I sort of wished I sold one of my two V1s. I like the silent shutter of the V1 for street photography, but it doesn't focus and snap in time for the moment. The Sony has been better for that. The V1 gets sorted of locked in this mode of not being able to focus and get the shot taken. This barely happens with the Sony. I find turning off the V1 and turning it back on helps. This has happened with both V1s (black and white models).

I wouldn't trade my V1 for anything else currently available.

Just an old dos guy
Just shows you how different photogs have different needs.

I'd trade my J1 for:

1) D610

2) D810

3) Sony A7s

4) Uh, lessee, Fuji XT-1

5) Uh...really, the list is endless. But I'm keeping my J1 and would probably keep a V1 if I had one and wasn't offered the cameras above.

6) Oh yeah, D5300.

+1

out of the dozens or so cameras i'm still privileged to work with (many more times that in lenses), i find there is no universal "all-in-one" camera which'll fit all my needs. i currently lean toward a Rolleiflex TLR, a Nikon F100, a Nikon D1x (IR modified), the Nikon D800E, and my Nikon 1 V1.

due mostly to my concentration of Nikon compatible glass, i find other ILCs a distraction. even the excellent Sony A7s. :)

for my purposes, the V1 produces better than "good enough" images in good light, and is compact and light enough to go deep under cover when necessary. at this time I don't find the V3 a significant enough value to plug a niche or replace one reserved by my other gear.

however situations are fluid, and i should explain that if a situation required i replace my V1, i'd prefer to honor it with a place in my mini-museum before trading it back to the discount rack ... like another can of beans. :)

I bought the V1 as a slightly more expensive replacement for a Canon p&s. I've added several lenses etc. to my kit, and I'm now at the point where it's a replacement for my D3.

V3 is too expensive and kludgy for me to consider it as a replacement.

Thanks
