I wear the camera around my neck and as it bounces off my shirt I know the focus point will be changed. Is the anyway to have both the touch screen focus and half press working together, so to speak?

Thanks

Rick

Why don't you turn the cam off? It's up and running in 2 seconds or something and if it's bouncing on your shirt, you doesn't seem to need it shooting ready instantly anyway.
In my experience the startup is more then fast enough for most situations. And when it isn't, I would keep it in hand.

Well, I just did a test here, with the NX2000 - slapping the poor camera against my chest many times and never did it trigger anything. I'm quite sure a modern capacitive touch screen is quite good at determining what is a finger and what isn't.

Along with ydobemos in this thread I tried it, only with my NX300 and touch focus does not alter its postion by coming into contact with my shirt.

Perhaps you should try it on a hot day when the shirt is a little bit moist (<- Sorry, I don't want to offend you Bejersey!).

I think a capacitive touchscreen is in use in NX300 and a dry shirt doesn't let the electricity flow:

Capacitive touch screens work by detecting the electrical current in your fingers, so a shirt should stop this happening. Unfortunately, Bejersey likes to wear chainmail so this will conduct current.

I have the same issue with the NX300, it does not do a great job determining that. I think it might have to do with temperature or humidity. Maybe a little sweat on the shirt from being out in 90 degree weather. When I would take my NX300 to the zoo I would probably have 5 or so shots from the camera swinging around and brushing up against me and triggering, and the focus point in random spots.

Even with my NX30 I noticed the same. At a wedding this past weekend I noticed there were probably 3 or 4 shots of nothing. Outdoor wedding and it was 30°C (86°F) and humid. I also noticed the focus point was wrong several times (usually in the far corner where it is hard to spot).

Since I shoot "from the hip" at times the focus square could be way off...Thanks Again!

Oh come on now, I live in the UK. When is our shirts here going to get soggy. ;-) No seriously though, I just tried what you said and it did work. I wet a corner of a handerchief and poked my finger around the screen, and, sure enough the AF point went where I touched. So, other than what xorgh said above, about truning it off between shots, I can't think of any other way out of it. Turning it off also saves power too, as the NX300 has been known to drink quite a bit of battery juice.

I occasionally have accidental photographs as I do leave touch focus and touch shutter enabled for my OH to use, but it ends up only 2 or 3 accidental photographs over a course of an event--the times when either of us picks up the camera and forgets to not touch the screen. Haven't found any issues while carrying it at all, but that's probably due to lack of humidity lately. I was thinking of getting an NX3000 due to the supposed cleaner images, but having a touch screen is just too much fun and convenient. I didn't think I'd like it as much, moving from a Nikon D5200, but it beats tapping on the navigation cluster N times to move the focus point (only in crude increments with OVF and in very slow fine increments in live view).

If you just have touch focus set to a certain point without one touch focus/shutter, can't you just re-position the focus point if it moves? It's so quick, and in normal circumstances, it should vary in location from shot to shot naturally, unless you shoot the same location on a tripod (where it won't touch your skin).

the focus.

That could be...I tried it over and over again. I'd move the focus square to the top left, walk a little and it was somewhere else on the screen. I can live with it :-)

Thank you!
What about static charge build up in synthetic materials?

My pleasure. I know people often complain about the Panasonic TZ40 as you cannot switch off the touch sensitive screen completely which annoyed a lot of people, they solved it by just dropping the touch sensitivity on the TZ60. That is the problem with all these features as they suit half the people fine and annoy the hell out of the other half. :)
